TWO OF THE FIRST FOUR IN KAZAKH DERBY

Allan purchased fillies excel against all but one colt

28th Jul 2008

The Night Shift filly FUTUNE, bought from Brian Meehan's consignment at the Autumn horses in Training Sale by Allan Bloodlines for special client Mr Maksat Akhaev almost beat the colts in finishing 2nd in the Kazakhstan Derby at Almaty yesterday.

And February Sales purchase - a real David Allan favourite for almost no money - MORE THAN CARMA by More Than Ready, 2nd in the 1,000 Guineas equivalent, came home 4th in the Derby, keeping up a fine record.

The Derby was won by an American bred colt, imported from Russia.

UNBELIEVABLE - THREE MORE HICKSTEAD VICTORIES

Rafa rises to take the All-England B&C Futurity Stakes

25th Jul 2008

Extraordinary! The Allan Bloodlines Showjumping Team added three more Hickstead victories during the Royal International Horse Show to add to their successful exploits at the Deby Meeting (see earlier news item). LOUGHNATOUSA RAFA capped it all today by winning the All-England B&C Futurity Stakes in partnership with rapidly rising rider John Crippen.

Earlier, RAFA had won the Senior Foxhunter and the dependable DIAMOND had taken the Old Lodge 1.25 Open in style. LOUGHNATOUSA RAVEN finished 4th in the Old Lodge 1.35 Open, and Bernice Cuthbert's LOUGHNATOUSA BRISCO, also with John Crippen, made further progress with an exciting 2nd place in The Hickstead Novice Stakes.

SECRET WISH WINS FOR AN ALLAN PARTNERSHIP

2 year old scores comfortably at Kenilworth

19th Jul 2008

SECRET WISH, owned in an Allan Bloodlines partnership convened after purchasing at the 2007 National Yearling Sales in Johannesburg, romped home at Kenilworth today to add to trainer Vaughan Marshall's list of juvenile winners.

Given an enterprising ride by Sean Veale towards the inside of the track on easy ground, the 2 year old daughter of TARA'S HALLS and the Peter and Libby Mills mare Star Magnolia cruised comfortably in the lead ahead of a 16 strong field. Drawing clear, SECRET WISH eventually won by 2 lengths eased.

Selected by Allan Bloodlines and bought for a modest sum, SECRET WISH attracted consignor Arc En Ciel Stud to retain "a leg" along with Mrs Joanne Knowles who, as Allan Bloodlines' Cape Town representative, knew enough to recommend the filly to her family. David Allan retained a shareholding as is the company's habit in developing partnerships.

TONIGHT'S PRIZE GOES ADVANCED

He and Abi Walters finish in the top third in a very strong section

19th Jul 2008

Hugs all round for connections of David Allan's 14 year old ex racehorse TONIGHT'S PRIZE as he successfully completed in fine style the cross-country in his first Advanced Event at Aston Le Walls late this afternoon. It has taken seven years since he retired from racing (3 wins/11 places) for this Bernice Cuthbert trained talisman to make it all the way through the ranks to Advanced, but a 13th place finish in a 42 strong field including top class eventers was highly respectable. Abi Walters who has added much to his development rode him smoothly and superbly.

A real furrowed-brow trier in the mystery world of dressage and a proficient showjumper as befits an Allan competitor, TP's strength is his obvious love of cross-country. Quite capable in past years of deciding that certain manufactured narrow obstacles had more attractive open space either side, the son of Night Shift concentrates hard these days in response to Abi's subtle reminders. This was a very fine first Advanced effort.

DIAMOND WINS AGAIN

Reliable class winner scores at Towerlands

15th Jul 2008

The Allan Showjumping Team's reliable grey LOUGHNATOUSA DIAMOND took a step down from his optimum level to add yet another win to his scoresheet.

Having won at Royal Windsor (B&C), twice at Hickstead (Grade C and 1.25 Open)and being Hickstead bound again soon, DIAMOND had a jaunt in a 1.20 Open at Towerlands with John Crippen on board and duly won the class.

GOOD BREEDING FUND ENJOYS DANCER'S DAUGHTER'S GLORY

4 x Gr.1 wins for half sister to Princess Magdalena

5th Jul 2008

The young mare PRINCESS MAGDALENA, resident at Barnane Stud co. Tipperary, in foal to Hurricane Run and with a Hawk Wing colt foal at foot, yesterday became half sister to a four times Group 1 winning champion when British bred DANCER'S DAUGHTER (Act One - Reason to Dance) dead-heated in the Vodacom July, South Africa's premier race, at Greyville. Her co-winner was double Met winner POCKET POWER, a son of JET MASTER. Both horses are superstars in their own country and can take on the best.

Top South African form can be world-beating form with SUN CLASSIQUE and JAY PEG the most recent examples in a long line. DANCER'S DAUGHTER's future is right now under scrutiny but she is very likely to "go international" having picked up four Gr.1s including two against colts.

PRINCESS MAGDALENA, a winner in England and also half sister to Gr.3 winning 2yo DIKTATORIAL, was purchased by Allan Bloodlines at Goffs Breeding Stock Sale in November 2007 and placed in the Good Breeding investment fund (principal Philip Brown) managed by the company. With Allan Bloodlines very acive in South Africa, reports on DANCER'S DAUGHTER - then Gr.3 placed - were very favourable and Allan took the chance.

EXCELLENT HICKSTEAD DERBY MEETING FOR ALLAN TEAM

Showjumpers take great steps upward

30th Jun 2008

In a week to remember, the Allan Bloodlines Showjumping Team made further progress at International and National level at the Hickstead British Showjumping Derby Meeting.

With coaching from Tim Beecher and with a team of horses sent out by trainer Bernice Cuthbert in magnificent shape physically and mentally, rider John Crippen enjoyed a life-changing week of successes and progress. The team machine hummed with energy and efficiency throughout five long days.

LOUGHNATOUSA RAVEN confirmed her arrival on the International Scene with a smoothly taken 5th of 37 in the Derby Salver, an FEI 1.45 class in the International Arena won by Ellen Whitaker on CORTAFLEX KANSELIER. Earlier in the day, RAVEN had cake-walked to 4th in the Equine America 1.35 Open Championship also in the Main Ring having qualified the day before.

Cheekily using the Derby Vase (FEI 1.45m) in the International Arena as a warm-up, RAVEN then went, after considerable debate, for the 1.60m Hickstead Derby Trial. The heights were not an issue for this tremendous mare and it was decided to test her with a great "degree of difficulty" added to the equation. Only one horse of the 35 considered capable of such things, all ridden by top class riders, went clear. RAVEN had two down - one being in the notorious Devil's Dyke - and qualified - with ease - for the Derby itself. Wow!

More of that below, but in the meantime LOUGHNATOUSA DIAMOND was having yet another brilliant show. This exciting multiple winner turned on the taps for himself and John with an opening win in the Grade C Championship Qualifier, accompanied in the class by the less experienced but progressive and scopey stable companion LOUGHNATOUSA RAFA. RAFA finished a very creditable 5th in the big field and both took their place in the International Arena the next day.

RAFA took a giant stride forward in experience with John responding accurately to specific coaching in bringing this horse on. He had only one fence down in the Main Ring. DIAMOND finished 2nd - missing a win by milliseconds - in a thrilling clear round speed performance in which John followed his now customary brilliant lines, saving time at every opportunity. Giving a couple of hundredths of a second greater respect to one particularly awkward obstacle may have cost them 1st place, but - more likely - it saved them a superb 2nd in this world-famous equestrian stadium.

A quiet day for DIAMOND and RAFA in favour of concentration on RAVEN's big classes was replaced on the Saturday - RAVEN'S day off competition - with another victory for DIAMOND in the 1.25 Open, beating a field of about 100 horses with a typically thrilling 2nd phase. When John asks DIAMOND to go flat out, the horse loves it and provides an excellent spectacle. RAFA went in the Horse & Hound Foxhunter for further mileage and waltzed to 3rd - again in a monster field. A good horse in the making, different to the others, but, as he gains in confidence, running in increasing harmony with John Crippen.

RAVEN's Derby Day dawned after much planning and a good deal of excitement. Cuthbert's meticulous attention to detail brought the mare forward in superb condition for a major new test. The 1.60 heights - and more - were not an issue for this powerhouse, but the Devil's Dyke, the huge Derby Bank and the general degree of difficulty in arguably the most testing showjumping course in the world would surely ask big questions.

A full house on a glorious day welcomed RAVEN to the Arena, 10th to go of the 29 Derby contestants, many of which were battle hardened veterans including previous winners. Hers was a round of two halves. Immaculate to start with, one annoying back rail down when not quite right and successful if not brilliant through the Table. Then the Bank. The crowd's full-throated roar greeted as smooth a passage over the Bank as any in the competition and better than most. Straight up then straight over the rail on top with the world loking upwards at them. One look and bravely down the seemingly sheer side - "bravely" applying to horse and to rider alike in their first exposure to a drop described by others as "terrifying" - then clear over the exit rail. That's a lot of thinking and reacting for two quick equestrian brains trying it for the first time.

Then the horrible Dyke. More thinking and this time including some bamboozlement with a bit of equine brain fogging to follow. The decision to go in the Derby had been taken "in conference" on the basis of progress at the show, knowing that the mare would probably find it hard not having the relevant experience. She battled through this vile obstacle, having the middle and exit elements down - the latter looking utterly impossible to the uninitiated - and only a handful of contestants got through the Dyke clear. John later said that a few minutes break at that point would have been nice because mental tiredness crept in, and a few signals between her and her rider got mixed resulting in several fences coming down. But RAVEN tried to the line and if you don't do it the first time, you can't do it better the second time. Horse and rider came out of it very well, with greatly enhanced confidence and experience. Win it next year!

If RAVEN, DIAMOND and RAFA had their necks slapped frequently by delighted connections - owner and sponsor, trainer and producer, and devoted groom and helpers - so did LOUGHNATOUSA BRISCO. Bernice Cuthbert's own young eventer spent the week jumping 1.10s at Hickstead for experience, having no more than one down in a round until his last effort late in the week. He went double clear amidst general delight. Achievement is achievement at whatever level of development and BRISCO with John in the saddle made sure to tick his very own box as well.

A brilliant week.

SADEEK WINS IN UNIQUE STYLE - CARNAGE AVERTED

Potential catastrophe became surely the ride of the season

27th Jun 2008

At Doncaster this afternoon, SADEEK got home by a head to record a win for Allan Bloodlines' management client Mrs Patricia Brown. After the horse had a difficult year in 2007 leading to a loss of confidence, his new trainer Bryan Smart has done an excellent job in getting SADEEK back to form within a plan embarked upon last Autumn.

Sounds simple? Not so. With the tack slipping back and around to the left and down, there would have been no doubt in anyone's mind that the jockey was about to fall off 40 yards from the line. The circumstances were life-threatening to the jockey who would hit the ground at maximum speed and be run over by most of the field, closely bunched behind. One or probably more of those runners would be brought down with potentially catastrophic consequences for horses and riders.

With both legs on the same side of the horse, and SADEEK having come to win the race, jockey Royston ffrench clung on for dear life to neck and mane, being bashed in the ribs with grip-loosening jolts at each stride. Somehow, he swung a leg back over the horse and sat upright, bouncing uncomfortably as SADEEK crossed the line.

Miraculously, although saddle and number cloth were hanging loosely, the weight cloth did not fall off. Consequently, the winning result was not threatened. Clutching bruised ribs, Royston got his breath back, got the tack off and went back to weigh in via a brief interview with the utterly astonished Jason Weaver.

SADEEK in the meantime looked as though he thought the whole thing was a great laugh. Ears pricked and jogging excitedly, he was brought back belatedly to the Winner's Enclosure to confirm what he clearly thought. "I won!!!".

For now, congratulations on a brilliant piece of horsemanship to Royston ffrench and for the future, more wins and less drama.

TWO MORE WINNERS FOR ALLAN BLOODLINES' IRISH CLIENTS

Mr Coleman and partners have two potentially smart horses

23rd Jun 2008

Two 4 year olds purchased by Allan Bloodlines as unraced 3 year olds have made excellent debuts in bumpers for regular client Billy Coleman and partners.

AZANA (Doncaster Sales) won last night by 12 lengths at Down Royal, first time out. Although facing stiffer tests than this in the future, this son of King's Best - a carefully selected placid King's Best! - quickened impressively. He could be a smart horse and may well be tried on the flat.

Another potentially smart horse is the Al Jabr filly QEETHAARA (Tattersalls), twice placed close-up in bumpers but surely a good quality prospect over 10 furlongs on the flat. Where AZANA could do either job, QEETHAARA is a smaller filly for whom big National Hunt weights are probably a trial.

These nice horses follow flat winner HAMPSHIRE and double hurdling winner ASSIR, purchased in a similar manner and given several months off. Next in line for Mr Coleman and partners is a nice big Diesis filly named AMANA.

KAZAKH CLASSIC SUCCESS FOR ALLAN PURCHASES

1st and 2nd in their 1,000 Guineas and an unlucky 3rd in the 2,000

22nd Jun 2008

In the developing Kazakhstan racing scene, Allan Bloodlines purchases have registered classic success and broken track records for the fifth consecutive year. Clients Maksat Akhaev and The Jockey Club of Kazakhstan, to whom congratulations are due, face particularly stiff competition this year with the import of 80 horses, many of them USA breds.

Today in the equivalent of the 1,000 Guineas, GREEN EARRINGS (3yo filly by Captain Rio) beat the track record by nearly 2 seconds in winning the fillies classic, getting home ahead of a very low cost filly MORE THAN CARMA (3yo by MORE THAN READY) who also broke the old record - a record held by another Allan purchase HALLANDALE and before that by another, RUBY MURRAY.

MORE THAN CARMA has only raced twice and was very green but finished well. Irrespective of cost, Allan was very keen on this very smart looking filly at the sales. She is out of a half sister to a SantaA nita Gr.1 winner AMERIQUE and has other black type close up. She was 2nd over 1400m first time out and will now go for the Kazakh Oaks.

GREEN EARRINGS won a National Celebration race on Opening Day, then "won" over 1400m in Almaty but was disqualified, and has now won the 1,000 Guineas.

FUTUNE (3yo filly by Night Shift, ex Brian Meehan) has won at 1600m equalling the track record broken in the 1,000 Guineas and repeated the time in the 2,000 guineas against the colts yesterday, stumbling and almost falling, then recovering to finish 3rd.

FINAL FOAL TALLY JUST FAVOURS THE GIRLS

6 fillies and 5 colts and 14 mares covered

31st May 2008

Fillies by SUAVE (ex Frayne in Kentucky), BEAT HOLLOW (ex Sweet Sorrow in Ireland) and STORMING HOME (ex Citrine in Newmarket), and a colt by DIKTAT (ex Sentiment also in Newmarket) arrived in late April/early May to complete the Allan broodmare band's Northern Hemisphere foaling season.

With Good Breeding's three colts (MR GREELEY, EL PRADO and HAWK WING) and two fillies (PULPIT and NOVERRE), Allan with partners' two fillies (LIBRETTIST and DIKTAT) and Allan's own four fillies (SUAVE, STORMING HOME, DIKTAT and BEAT HOLLOW) and a single colt with rarity value by SAARLAND(!), the total is eleven foals with two mares having been barren, two sold in foal and one taken out of production.

Eleven mares for 2008 coverings are in tested in foal with three remaining to be scanned. Covering stallions are (Ireland) DANEHILL DANCER, HURRICANE RUN, ONE COOL CAT, MUJADIL, JEREMY, HAWK WING, HIGH CHAPARRAL and AUSSIE RULES, (USA)JOHANNESBURG, DIXIE UNION, POWERSCOURT, and LION HEART, (GB) DUBAI DESTINATION, TOBOUGG. A young mare booked to CAPE CROSS on an excellent mating sadly died after foaling and another, to ROYAL APPLAUSE, failed to cycle after having a late foal. (Subsequently....two of the remaining three have been scanned in foal making a total of 13 mares in foal).

FOURTH WIN FOR GRAND VIZIER

Long time Allan supporters enjoy more success

29th May 2008

GRAND VIZIER won his fourth race in seven starts and his first on turf this afternoon at Yarmouth.

Dropped back to 7 furlongs after three polytrack mile wins, this son of Desert Style carried the colours of Hintlesham SP Partners to a win that looked half way to be in doubt. After being flat to the boards and then wandering a bit, the laid-back gelding got on with things and won well under the very promising 5lb claimer Jack Mitchell, riding for his boss Chris Wall.

The partners, Peter Brown and Sue Cunningham have supported the selection and management service at Allan Bloodlines for more than ten years and have had success with LITTLE VENICE and KEYAKI who won a dozen or so races between then. Now GRAND VIZIER, an Allan purchase at Tattersalls Ireland Yearling Sales at €33,000, winning four with more to come all going well.

NAVENE GETS OFF THE MARK

Patience pays off with a nice win at Yarmouth

28th May 2008

NAVENE, a 4 year old Desert Style filly racing in the colours of Dr Philip Brown, justified faith in her by beating thirteen rivals over a mile at Yarmouth this afternoon.

Displaying her awkward head carriage when too keen in the first half, NAVENE knuckled down under an intelligent ride from Alan Munro and finished very resolutely to win by a healthy length and a quarter.

Trained by the ever patient Chris Wall, NAVENE was an Allan Bloodlines purchase at the Tattersalls Breeze Ups. With input from Fawley House Stud in two winters there, especially when ridden back, and under Allan management, this has been a team effort!

DEBUT VICTORY FOR KIMIGAIO AT DURBANVILLE

Scopey filly makes a smart start to her career

21st May 2008

In the colours of Yoshiko Allan, KIMIGAIO (National Emblem - Sapphire Serenade by Harry Hotspur) made a winning debut over the minimum distance at Durbanville Racecourse just outside Cape Town.

The attractive chestnut 2 year old had been an Allan Bloodlines purchase at the National Yearling Sales in 2007, earning R 330,000 for Rob Pickering's Middlefield Stud. Trained by Vaughan Marshall and ridden expertly by top rider Karl Nesius, she battled hot favourite TRAMPS throughout the last 200 metres and prevailed, going away, by three quarters of a length.

TWO PURCHASES FOR ALLAN AT GRANDWEST

Standout fillies cost a lot less than at the Nationals

19th May 2008

The GrandWest Yearling Sale near Cape Town suffered for its move to mid May and will return to full strength next year in its more customary earlier slot. But this time around, there were nuggets to be mined amongst generally moderate stock.

Allan Bloodlines bought two yearlings. The first was for the proverbial "stone nothing" at R 20,000. By Second Empire - and much more racy than many - the filly is out of an Eagle Eyed mare which genetically is the same as a Danehill mare. She is quite closely related to European top sprinter CONTINENT, by LAKE CONISTON, who will be an ideal mate when she goes to stud.

The other, at R 95,000, would surely have fetched R 250,000 at the Nationals. Oozing quality and the scope to make a lovely 3 year old, the bay filly from Klawervlei Stud is by the Danehill horse REQUIEM, who has started very well, out of an unplaced but beautifully bred young mare by SAUMAREZ who has the right credentials to be a good broodmare sire. Named CAPE ESCAPE, this filly joins the Allan team of yearlings to have a few months rest and then be reassessed.

FIRST TWO ALLAN PURCHASES FOR KAZAKHSTAN 2008 WIN

Opening Day and National Day victories keep up the percentages

12th May 2008

The 2008 Racing Season in Kazakhstan got under way yesterday with two of the four most recent Allan Bloodlines purchases appearing on Day One, both winning.

The first race at Almaty was a 9 furlong event in which a quality filly by NIGHT SHIFT named EVENING PERFORMANCE won comfortably. Meanwhile, long term Allan client Mr Maksat Akhaev shipped a good sized CAPTAIN RIO filly named GREEN EARRINGS, bought out of Roger Charlton's Beckhampton Stables at Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale, to Northern Kazakhstan towards the Russian border to run in a 2400 metre race to celebrate the country's National Day on 9th May. GREEN EARRINGS won the race.

Next out will be another NIGHT SHIFT filly named FUTUNE, consigned by Briam meehan from Manton House to the same sale.

GRAND VIZIER THREE FOR THREE ON POLYTRACK

Son of Desert Style wins at Britain's newest racecourse

8th May 2008

4 year old gelding GRAND VIZIER sat nicely three wide over the mile of fresh polytrack surface at newly opened Great Leighs, neatly avoiding the kick back and holding a handy position. In a rerun of his first win, he sat level with the odds on favourite SWOP in the straight and wore him down to win by a head. Trainer Chris Wall continued his great form and was well served by stable apprentice Jack Mitchell whose 5lb claim may have done the trick, but he still had to have the horse in the right place and ride a strong finish - which he did.

The appalling coverage on AtTheRaces was an insult to the intelligent racing viewer, juggling USA racing, Irish racing and multiple commercials with the only Great Leighs pre-race commentary solely occupied by repetitive attempts at smart remarks about Luca Cumani, trainer of the favourite. Awful.

But the horse didn't know that and fairly romped down the straight, meandered into the winner's enclosure and remarked - one might guess - "Is this Great Leighs? OK, done that - please take me home".

Partners Peter Brown and Sue Cunningham eagerly await GRAND VIZIER's reappearance on grass.

BRILLIANT ROYAL WINDSOR FOR THE ALLAN BLOODLINES TEAM

Two wins and a 2nd on a magnificent day

7th May 2008

"Simply extraordinary!" was the comment from Tim Beecher in Ireland when hearing the Allan team's results today.

An exhausted trainer Bernice Cuthbert drove home a lorry full of performances after rising at 0230 to take five horses to a ludicrous site in Windsor Home Park where officials forced Wednesday participants to park, and keep their horses, a mile or so from the competition area. It might have ground the humans if not the horses down, but the response was spirited and, for the Allan Bloodlines team, something of a triumph.

Eventers TONIGHT'S PRIZE and SCHOLARSHIP went in the Newcomers with Abi Walters on board and went double clear and nearly double clear respectively. "TP" is a team icon and must have chuckled inwardly after a most accomplished showjumping display. SCHOLARSHIP - another retired racehorse - was unlucky not to do as well and have a similar chuckle.

Then LOUGHNATOUSA RAFA and John Crippen made their appearance - quite dramatically given the crack that John quite rightly gave the recalcitrant Rafa in the collecting ring. The effect carried through to the Main Ring where Rafa won the 70+ strong division of the Foxhunter with a ride from John Crippen of which LOUGHNATOUSA DIAMOND would have approved.

LOUGHNATOUSA RAVEN then went into the 1.40 and finished 2nd in amongst the great and the good of showjumping. More or less unextended, RAVEN failed to win by only 1.5 seconds most of which was spent in the air clearing the obstacles with ease. She would have been just as quick 10 cm higher. Brilliant if not testing enough.

Perennial favourite LOUGHNATOUSA DIAMOND went in the B&C handicap - another speed class. Only a few of them saw which way John and Diamond went. They won with something in hand with a storming round typical now of what John can get out of Diamond and what Diamond does for John. Raw excitement and another victory at Royal Windsor.

Rafa returned for the Walwyn Novice Championship and went clear, only to fail to find a stride in the jump off against the clock and have the only pole of the Team's day down. This 8th placed finish for gawky-but-penny-dropping Rafa and John did nothing to mar a simply extraordinary day for the Allan team and John Crippen, whose brother Simon won the Walwyn.

TIGER DANCE AND SECOND EMPIRE TO STAND AT ARC EN CIEL

Small new issue of shares in the Giant's Causeway full brother

1st May 2008

Allan Bloodlines announces that GIANT’S CAUSEWAY’s full brother TIGER DANCE (Storm Cat – Mariah’s Storm by Rahy) and Champion 2yo and Classic placed SECOND EMPIRE (Fairy King – Welsh Love by Ela Mana Mou) will stand at Arc En Ciel Stud near Wellington in the Western Cape from the 2008 South Africa breeding season onwards in a new long term arrangement.

In the growing South Africa bloodstock market, there is a new share opportunity in TIGER DANCE through an issue of five shares for international ownership at the local price of R 130,000 (approx £8,750) + VAT. Shareholders would join a number of excellent South African breeders and Oaklands Estate, retaining a large block of shares. Oaklands, where the stallions stood last year, is being redeveloped but its owners the Timms family are remaining fully involved in the industry, and now extend their history of cooperation with Arc En Ciel.

Allan Bloodlines is the Syndicate Manager and will attend the upcoming broodmare sales in May where mares can be purchased to send to either stallion and mares in foal to both are on offer following their very good books of mares. TIGER DANCE is all potential, domestic and international, and SECOND EMPIRE is now established with Stakes winners around the world and a good start with his first 2yos in South Africa.

The beautiful Arc En Ciel property is also the home of NYSAEAN (Sadler’s Wells – Irish Arms by Irish River), Gr.3 and Listed winner in Ireland and France who has his first yearlings as well as established local sires TARA’S HALLS (Fairy King – Habella by Habitat) and the ageing CORDOBA (El Gran Senor – Gay Senorita by Raise A Native). “We have worked closely with Craig Carey at Arc En Ciel for some years as has Paul Timms and are very much looking forward to taking these stallions forward in exciting careers,” said David Allan. “This is an excellent formula”.

LUMINOUS GOLD OFF THE MARK

Cosy victory for a nicely bred filly

1st May 2008

On Good to Soft ground - perhaps closer to Good - LUMINOUS GOLD, trained by Chris Wall, became the first winner for Allan Bloodlines client Dr Philip Brown at Folkestone this afternoon.

Sitting 2nd in a handicap field of fillies on the 6 furlong straight, Alan Munro asked for an effort 2 out. The response was strong and straight resulting in a comfortable length and a half victory made all the more meritorious by the LUMINOUS GOLD tiring just a little, this being her seasonal debut, in the final 100 yards.

Purchased by Allan Bloodlines at Tattersalls Part 1 Yearling Sales in 2006, the 3 year old daughter of a black type mare is by Fantastic Light but has a lot of speed on her damside. It is hoped that this may sustain considerable progress from this satisfactory beginning.

TITUS IS FINALLY ALONE IN SOUTH AFRICA

The little Allan speedball wins a competitive Kenilworth handicap

19th Apr 2008

TITUS ALONE, a son of Titus Livius, and a triple winner at 2 including the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot finally opened his account in South Africa this afternoon.

With headgear off and a good ride from Sean Veale, the little chestnut came from off the pace in a 1200 metre sprint to get up to win by a neck in the colours of David Allan, sent out by Vaughan Marshall.

Seeming to have acclimatised straight after arrival in the Cape, Titus suffered from one bug after another to which he was not immune during an abortive Durban season last year. Taking time to return to gleaming health, and operating within a yard beset by another virus, the gelding has put in a set of consistent runs, placing several times in being only narrowly pipped at the post. Coincidentally, the Vaughan Marshall yard has shaken off the virus that afflicted all Milnerton trainers and is back in tip top form. So is TITUS ALONE, now a winner in South Africa as well.

ALLAN BLOODLINES TEAM MAKES PROGRESS AT THE BLUE CHIP FINALS

Raven begins to develop a fan club

12th Apr 2008

LOUGHNATOUSA RAVEN waltzed around the Grand Prix course at the Blue Chip Finals at Harpury last night to take 4th place in amongst international horses, unextended. She could have gone quickly enough to win but at this level, might have made an error that her vastly more experienced rivals would not.

The rider and mare combination is turning heads these days. RAVEN and John Crippen had taken 3rd place in the A&B Final on the previous evening with a round described as "Poetry in Motion" by a top rider whilst LOUGHNATOUSA DIAMOND placed 3rd in his warm up class and thrilled the crowd in his own Grade C final, just failing to take 2nd place in the speed jump-off when an unlucky pole rolled at the last.

LOUGHNATOUSA JIMBO showed his scope whilst gaining experience in his first Grand Prix and LOUGHTATOUSA RAFA also placed at 1.20, coming back from a respiratory infection.

FIVE MORE YEARLINGS BOUGHT BY ALLAN BLOODLINES IN JOHANNESBURG

Haul includes colts by Jet Master and Captain Al and a well bred filly by Jallad

7th Apr 2008

Having bought the joint sale topper on Friday night, David Allan added to the latest roster of Allan Bloodlines purchases by signing for five more yearlings on Sunday and today.

Resuming the regular search for value, Allan bought between R 100,000 and 300,000 and secured the following:
Lot 162 a Captain Al colt for a client, Lot 468 an unnusually located Perfect Soul colt for two clients, Lot 276 a chestnut colt by champion sire Jet Master and Lot 387 a smart colt by Kingmambo son Parade Leader - both of these will eventually be syndicated - and Lot 436 a late foaled but racy daughter of Jallad with a nice pedigree.

SIR GEORGE WINS FOR CHAPPLE-HYAM AT LINGFIELD

Allan Bloodlines purchase makes a strong comeback

5th Apr 2008

SIR GEORGE (by MUJADIL out of TORRMANA) picked up his first win at Lingfield this afternoon under jockey Alan Munro. He is half brother to multiple winner DON'T PANIC who also won first time out this season a couple of weeks ago. Both are with trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam and were purchased by Allan Bloodlines at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sales of 2005 and 2006.

After a promising first run at 2, SIR GEORGE had a few niggling problems after his efforts on unhelpful ground in the Tattersalls Ireland Sales Race but he has wintered well. It shows!

ALLAN BLOODLINES BUYS RECORD BREAKING SALE TOPPER

Two fillies share the record at the Select Night of the National Yearling Sales of South Africa

4th Apr 2008

On a very strong sale evening with a 31% increase in average, two very well bred fillies shared the top price this evening on the Select Night of the Emperors Palace National Yearling Sales of South Africa in Johannesburg.

Klawervlei Stud's Australian bred Royal Academy filly is out of a full sister to HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR with a host of other top class black type performers in her pedigree. One of the "talking horses" of the sale, the ring was abuzz when the auctioneer described her as the best bred filly he had ever offered in South Africa. Be that as it may, bidding was spirited with judges around the ring creating a flurry of activity amongst the spotters.

David Allan of Allan Bloodlines prevailed with a successful bid of R 3 million, a new record for a yearling filly in South Africa. "The filly is for a partnership that we have convened involving principally a British owner/breeder who is deeply involoved in and very supportive of our operations in the Northern Hemisphere," said Allan. "He and partners now move into South Africa and the filly will be put into training in the Cape." Pressed to outline the major attractions of the filly, he added "The main elements of the pedigree are those that brought such attention to her, but we are particularly keen on Royal Academy as a broodmare sire although this filly is all Danehill".

Colts did not quite get to the 3 million level, but several were purchased by the strongest overseas and domestic bidders approaching that price. It was matched when the last lot, a filly by champion sire Western Winter with high class South African close relatives was bought Blandford Bloodstock for Graham Beck.

DON'T PANIC WINS IMPRESSIVELY ON FIRST TURF DAY

Romps away with Spring Mile

22nd Mar 2008

With a winning margin of 4 lengths, and a further 7 to the third, DON'T PANIC gave the Allan Bloodlines managed team and his owner Tony Webb an excellent start to the 2008 Turf Season.

Having missed getting into the Lincoln along with several other fancied runners, the son of Fath started 2nd favourite for the Spring Mile at Doncaster. Biding his time in the stand side group, Alan Munro asked for an effort about 2 furlongs out and received an electric response.

Fawley House Stud had brought DON'T PANIC up to a level from which Peter Chapple-Hyam could work and the trainer got his charge 100% right and ready for the day. An exciting season may well lie ahead.

RAVEN QUALIFIES FOR THE BRITISH OPEN

NEC date for Allan's top mare

18th Mar 2008

A place in the Grand Prix at Addington on 1st February has turned out, now that the plot has fully unfolded,to qualify LOUGHNATOUSA RAVEN for the British Open at the NEC on 3rd April.

This remarkable achievement for the Allan Bloodlines showjumping team is yet more evidence of the huge progress made by this immensely talented Bernice Cuthbert trained mare and her rider, John Crippen

LAKE CONISTON YEARLING JOINS THE ALLAN TEAM IN CAPE TOWN

Value purchase at the Equimark Vintage Yearling Sale

17th Mar 2008

Allan Bloodlines topped up its Cape Town racing team at the Equimark Vintage Yearling Sale on Sunday (16th March) when buying a colt described by the auctioneers as one of the outstanding individuals of the sale. The Equimark Sales Race for graduates of this sale had just been won by a daughter of Lake Coniston and this strong chestnut son of the same sire could be the type to try for a repeat. Out of a winning mare by All Fired Up, a grandson of Damascus, Lot 142 was consigned by Graham Koster’s Rosedene Stud for the state of the late Mr P Botha and brought R 180,000.

“I felt that he was a R 250,000 colt whose superficial cut to a hind leg might put some buyers off,” said David Allan. “We have been fortunate to have good success with first foals when the individual and the genetics add up to an attractive package and this fellow more than fits that bill”.

Earlier, Allan had been underbidder on a ready made broodmare in Lot 120, a half sister by Sadler’s Wells horse Doowaley to Champion Older horse TRADEMARK but was trumped at R 340,000 by the sales company acting as agent.

Allan had made two purchases in January at the Equimark Ready to Run Sale - a filly by Casey Tibbs with a potential broodmare pedigree and a colt for a partnership by Fanatic Dane, in Allan’s opinion a real value stallion at the lower end.

“Our older horses have been flying the flag for ourselves and for our Racing Club Straight Bat Racing here in The Cape but the three year olds have been heavily virus affected and will reappear in April/May along with some nice two year olds from last year’s yearling sales,” said Allan. “Local owner Chris Newman has taken a leg in the Lake Coniston colt who will be started at Craig Carey’s Arc en Ciel Stud and join trainer Vaughan Marshall in mid year”.

HINTLESHAM THOROUGHBREDS UPGRADED AND ENHANCED

Horses with Chapple-Hyam, Smart and Phillips and visits galore

15th Mar 2008

HINTLESHAM THOROUGHBREDS takes its members deep into the experience of ownership without a large capital cost. With strictly limited membership to preserve exclusivity, and in partnership with managers Allan Bloodlines, the fee of £995 (or £260 x 4 or £135 x 8) used to buy into the racing of two horses with constant good communication and a high quality programme of visits and gatherings. Now the same sum brings three horses with top trainers and a schedule of visits from which to select.

CWM RHONDDA (3yo filly by Gulch) will run for HINTLESHAM THOROUGHBREDS from Peter Chapple-Hyam's yard in Newmarket hoping to emulate Allan Bloodlines' successes there with multiple winners BASKEVILLE and DON'T PANIC. Four times placed at 2 SEMPRE LIBERA (3yo filly by Statue of Liberty) will be sent out by Richard Phillips in his small flat team summering in the Cotswolds and an exciting 2yo colt called YEOMAN OF ENGLAND has joined Bryan Smart's North Yorkshire establishment, following on from Allan's good 2 year olds there TITUS ALONE, FATHOM FIVE and C'MON YOU IRONS.

Visits to all those training locations and a late season excursion to a farm near Lambourn are on the agenda with some of the associated lunch parties included in the membership fee.

The 2008 season is anticipated keenly - membership details are on www.hintleshamthoroughbreds.com or www.allanbloodlines.com click on Hintlesham Thoroughbreds or call 01932 350660.

THE NEXT LITTLE WAVE OF FOALS

Mr Greeley and Hawk Wing colts and a Librettist filly

5th Mar 2008

The private investment fund "GOOD BREEDING", managed by Allan Bloodlines, welcomed two very exciting chestnut colts recently. One, by HAWK WING, is a son of PRINCESS MAGDALENA, resident of Barnane Stud, Co. Tipperary and half sister to double South African Gr.1 winning filly DANCER'S DAUGHTER and to Newmarket Gr.3 winning 2 year old DIKTATORIAL. The other, by MR GREELEY, arrived late last night at Darby Dan Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. This good-sized chap is a son of the lovely TREMPOLINO mare CAREFREE CHEETAH, full sister to ARKADIAN HERO and already dam of black type and another winner.

Earlier, Barnane Stud had overseen the foaling of a LIBRETTIST filly, the first foal of a smart NIGHT SHIFT mare BEECHESVILLE owned by Barnane, Allan and another partner in an Allan Bloodlines mare partnership.

PRINCESS MAGDALENA visits HURRICANE RUN, CAREFREE CHEETAH goes to JOHANNESBURG and BEECHESVILLE has a date with MARJU.

FIRST THREE FOALS ARRIVE

Sadler's Wells mares produce fillies, Darshaan mare has a colt

11th Feb 2008

The first three foals of 2008 in the Allan owned and managed breeding team have arrived.

Last month, a lovely bay filly by PULPIT was produced at Tara Stud in Co. Meath by KISSES FOR ME, a 300,000 guineas purchase at Tattersalls December Sales just gone and on 9th February, YOUM JADEED gave birth to another bay filly, this time by DIKTAT, at Fox Farm, the property 20 minutes from Newmarket, newly acquired by Houghton Bloodstock.

YOUM JADEED's filly is a three parts sister to her Australian black type winning filly.

Coincidentally, both mares are by perennial champion and top broodmare sire SADLER'S WELLS. NO FRILLS, resident in Kentucky, is by the other "top broodmare sire" DARSHAAN and late last night she delivered a bay colt by EL PRADO.

KISSES FOR ME visits DANEHILL DANCER, YOUM JADEED visits DUBAI DESTINATION and NO FRILLS returns to EL PRADO.

MORE FILLIES FOR KAZAKHSTAN

Modest February Sale offers opportunties

7th Feb 2008

In dull trading at the Tattersalls February Sale with the median down a little year on year - (readers should ignore the hype about record averages created by one hugely expensive mare), Allan Bloodlines worked with the Kazakhstan Jockey Club to secure two fillies for a new client.

3 year old unraced fillies in training by WHERE OR WHEN and MORE THAN READY, purchased at modest prices by Allan, will fly to Almaty within a week to have a break before warming up for the new racing season. The lower priced of the two fillies is a beautifully made individual out of a half sister to a Gr.1 winner with a family packed full of American black type.

ONLY BEN MAHER TOPS ALLAN QUALIFIERS AT ADDINGTON

John Crippen has a brilliant show including a Grand Prix place

1st Feb 2008

The Allan Bloodlines Showjumping Team's avowed aim of "mixing it" with the best in 2008 was fulfilled at Addington Manor when only Ben Maher in a field of 72 managed to get ahead of LOUGHNATOUSA DIAMOND and LOUGHNATOUSA JIMBO in the Grade B&C Qualifier for the Blue Chip Finals at Hartpury. John Crippen and DIAMOND have become a very exciting combination and took 2nd place to add to their recent Royal International qualification with the up and coming JIMBO threatening to beat them but keeping an eye on a safe round to ensure qualification. JIMBO was 3rd of the 72.

This evening, LOUGHNATOUSA RAVEN, horse and rider having uncharacteristically made an error in the B&C lined up in the A&B Grand Prix. Under a top class ride, the mare flew and took 4th place, showing exactly what is yet to come.

DANCER'S DAUGHTER WINS ON MET DAY

Another Gr.1 for Princess Magdalena's half sister

26th Jan 2008

(See News Item 6th January) DANCER'S DAUGHTER further enhanced PRINCESS MAGDALENA'S pedigree with a superb victory over a too-short 1600 metre trip in the Majorca Stakes Gr.1 at Kenilworth on "J&B Met Day" today - the equivalent of winning a Gr.1 at Royal Ascot, South African style.

This excellent filly will be aimed at the top races in the Durban season and then perhaps at the Met itself next year.

TWO ALLAN PURCHASES IN THE CAPE

2yo colt and filly join the roster at Equimark Ready to Runs

25th Jan 2008

At Durbanville Racecourse yesterday, the sales company Equimark presented around 130 2 year olds that had been seen breezing during the previous two mornings.

In a generally low key sale conducted in 33 degree temperatures - helped later in the afternoon by a different kind of breeze, Allan Bloodlines sought out a colt by underrated stallion FANATIC DANE, a New Zealand bred son of DANEHILL. He will join Vaughan Marshall and should be able to race, all going well, within a couple of months or less.

Later, a "filly with a pedigree" by CASEY TIBBS out of an SA Oaks placed mare was secured by Allan. This attractive individual has an extremely strong 2nd dam in support and had gone well in the gallops. Nevertheless she needs time to develop further physically. She will be given that time at Arc En Ciel Stud near Wellington, an hour or so from Cape Town, and could perhaps go into training in three months from now.

DIAMOND'S BRILLIANCE AND RAVEN'S ACCURACY SET UP EXCELLENT SHOW

Four main Allan horses each 1st or 2nd

12th Jan 2008

A great Patchetts three day show for the Allan Bloodlines Showjumping Team.

With John Crippen riding in top form, the Allan horses testified to Bernice Cuthbert's meticulous preparation as follows:

LOUGHNATOUSA RAVEN

2nd in a big field in the Grade B/C which was an excellent result in itself as well as qualifying her for the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead Main Ring Final. In the jump off, John ensured RAVEN's position as one of the two qualifiers with a ride guaranteeing 2nd place - an accuracte clear in a quick but not risky time.

LOUGHNATOUSA DIAMOND

A brilliant round in a jump-off of nine competitors from a 54 horse field brought a major win. Diamond and John were 1st in the Grade C over a tough and technical course, and qualified for the Blue Chip Final as well.

LOUGHNATOUSA JIMBO

1st in the 1.20 Open in a bit of a cake walk. John and Jimbo waltzed through the first round clear and skimmed through the jump-off flawlessly. Jimbo can go much higher but needed this to resore some confidence.

LOUGHNATOUSA RAFA

2nd in the Foxhunter, Rafa stamped his comeback after a nasty infection with a classy performance making the team contemplate another Horse of the Year Show appearance.

RAVEN QUALIFIES FOR THE ROYAL INTERNATIONAL HORSE SHOW

Hickstead appointment for Allan top mare

11th Jan 2008

LOUGHNATOUSA RAVEN and John Crippen qualified yesterday at Patchetts for The Royal International Horse Show Final (Grade B/C) at Hickstead.

Clear in the first round, Raven and John joined eight others in the jump-off with its big looking, tight indoor course. Going second last, with only one rival clear, they had to go clear in a quicker time to guarantee qualification for Hickstead. If the last competitor went quicker, it wouldn't matter. The key was to guarantee being 2nd.

John's timing was immaculate, blending minimum risk with going quickly enough. The final horse and rider had to risk all and did indeed go clear and more quickly, but Raven had already guaranteed qualification for The Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead.

ALLAN GOFFS PURCHASE NOW HAS GR.1 WINNING SISTER

GB bred Dancer's Daughter wins impressively at Kenilworth

6th Jan 2008

PRINCESS MAGDALENA, a young winning PENNEKAMP mare in foal to HAWK WING was purchased at Goffs Mares Sale recently by Allan Bloodlines for a British investment client.

The mare was selected for several reasons, including her black type dam and two black type siblings. One is DIKTATORIAL a fairly recent Gr.3 winning 2 year old in England and the other DANCER'S DAUGHTER, then four times a winner and twice Gr.3 placed in South Africa.

Connections were delighted with DANCER'S DAUGHTER - British bred grey filly, by ACT ONE - won a Gr.1 at Kenilworth yesterday by 3 lengths going away. She might be supplemented for The Met on 26th January and/or considered for international duty, but in any event....she's good.

PRINCESS MAGDALENA visits HURRICANE RUN.

ALLAN BLOODLINES CELEBRATES PURCHASING RECORD

75% winners / 94% winners or placed in 05/06/07 racing

3rd Jan 2008

Having recorded mid year figures of 67% winners, Allan Bloodlines reached 75% by year end and now publishes the following statistics:

FOR RACING IN 2005, 2006 and 2007

AT HOME AND ABROAD

YEARLINGS AND HORSES IN TRAINING:

(Northern Hemisphere purchases only)

78 horses for racing purchased by Allan Bloodlines

5 are due to make their debuts

4 have not placed (2 perhaps 3 should improve)

15 individuals have placed (a few should improve)

52 individuals have won

75% winners to runners

94% winners/placed to runners

(only 5 non runners of which some are due out relatively soon)

"We hope that several of the recently placed winter runners will win soon and that late season unplaced debuts will translate to early turf victories next year," commented David Allan. "But we must draw the line somewhere and are delighted with these figures".

In addition, Allan Bloodlines has purchased 20 yearlings in Autumn 07 and 9 horses in training.

Purchases for breeding are not included in the above numbers.

3 DAYS - 1ST 2ND 3RD 3RD 4TH

Cortesia wins while four others place

31st Dec 2007

1st. An Allan Bloodlines favourite, the now 4 year old filly CORTESIA, won her first start over hurdles on Saturday at Bangor on Dee. Sired by Allan's stallion COURTEOUS and purchased by Allan from her breeder as a foal in support of said stallion, CORTESIA had won a decent Newbury maiden at 3 when trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam. She ran well in the Cheshire Oaks with draw, track and, as it turned out, ground against her. CORTESIA found it hard to be competitive and Allan, retaining faith, retained her at the sales and sent her to Richard Philips to be tried over hurdles. Opting to have her ridden by apprentice Sean Quinlan who had schooled her at home, owner and trainer were delighted to see her sluice through the field having been given confidence early on. Nearly making a hash of the last, CORTESIA recovered to nail the favourite on the line and take the 2m 1f Fillies and Mares maiden.

2nd. Earlier in the day, Royal Ascot winner TITUS ALONE finally regained some form after a lengthy acclimatisation period in South Africa. Performing his trick of dwelling in the stalls, he gave a 1200 metre field at Kenilworth several lengths' start and overhauled the lot. Except one. With many observers believing that he had at worst secured a dead heat, TITUS was declared to have finished 2nd. Nevertheless, he seems to be back to form.

3rd. Shortly afterwards, still on Saturday, SEMPRE LIBERA, 2 year old Allan filly leased into Racing

Club HINTLESHAM THOROUGHBREDS, ran 3rd at Lingfield, a finish with which nobody had any complaints. Given an excellent ride by Kirsty Milczarek, the filly was beaten by two better horses on the day, whilst leaving the others well behind. She has been 2nd, 3rd 3rd in her three efforts to date.

3rd. This afternoon, GRANDAGE followed up his promising bumper debut with 3rd place at Warwick in what may well be a pretty strong race. Wit Oliver Sherwood sending him out looking magnificent and travelling like the winner for much of the race, GRANDAGE's greenness was found out on the sharp 180 degree bend. Having run wide and lost his rhythm, Dominic Elsworth pulled him together to finish an encouraging 3rd to horses with form, and with the rest way behind.

4th. Yesterday at Dromahane near Mallow north of Cork, SHAHBASH carried the busy Allan colours to 4th place in one of the strongest 4yo bumpers of the season. Sean Aherne sent this brave little horse out showing improvement over his "nearly" debut and Mark Beecher gave him another good ride in a strongly run heat in which SHAHBASH made the pace, jumping immaculately. On very testing ground, Allan and supporters wondered if he would get home up the stiff finish and perhaps he did not. Rendered blind at the last by being crowded, SHAHBASH made a mistake and all but stopped but recovered to hold 4th place in a field of 17.

SUPER TUSCAN WINS HIS MAIDEN AT 2

Unusually coloured colt now a winner and placed

17th Dec 2007

Described as "Bay and Roan" in the sales catalogue just over a year ago, a colt by Fath out of Ornellaia was purchased by Allan Bloodlines. Now named SUPER TUSCAN - Ornellaia being one of the so-named wine producers in Tuscany that broke the mould and introduced new grape varieties - this 2 year old colt won his maiden at Wolverhampton this afternoon.

SUPER TUSCAN had been very unlucky to be "flattened" in a 6 furlong race at Doncaster that he led for a long way until being knocked out of the race by a colt out of control and he then finished 3rd on the polytrack at Kempton. Trainer James Given and David Allan concurred that it would be worth taking him back to 5 furlongs and, eschewing several other entry opportunities, declared him for today.

It may have helped that Wolverhampton is riding quite slow due to weather impact on their own polytrack, but the colt had to give an odds on favourite no less than 9 lbs. Under a calm, measured ride from Tom Queally, the youngster steadily overhauled the favourite in the straight and won comfortably.

RAVEN AND JIMBO GO WELL AT HARTPURY

Series final placings and a Puissance excursion

17th Dec 2007

Hartpury College near Cheltenham christened its £4.6 million new indoor/outdoor facilities 14th-16th December with a series of strong showjumping competitions culminating in Sunday finals.

The Allan Bloodlines Showjumping Team took its good young horses LOUGHNATOUSA RAVEN and newcomer LOUGHNATOUSA JIMBO to compete in the Bronze Tour and, to cut a long story short, both qualified for the finals with good preliminary places.

In front of a full-house, RAVEN went immaculately clear and JIMBO followed suit, putting two Allan horses ridden by John Crippen into the jump-off of nine competitors. RAVEN went clear again and set a time that ended up placing her 3rd in the Final. JIMBO beat her time and was quick enough to win but just touch a pole on the penultimate fence coming out of a tough combination. Still, he was 8th in the field of 30.

JIMBO was only having his third outing for the team and will learn rapidly how to deal with such circumstances. He is a very fast horse with enormous scope yet to be tapped. RAVEN in many ways was too good for the class and was caught between levels. The fences were 1.30/1.40 which were small for her and she can produce the same fast times over the bigger fences for which she is now qualified.

In a thrilling diversion, the Team ran RAVEN in the Puissance to help her learn more about coming back into hand. With David Allan, trainer Bernice Cuthbert and consultant Tim Beecher in attendance, she and John tried their first Puissance. Clear in the first round, a second was attempted. Clear again with the big wall at 1.82 metres. She, unlike others, was therefore not eliminated and could jump on at a more extreme height but that was enough for a young horse against battle hardened puissance specialists. RAVEN retired undefeated while the specialists competed up to 2.07 metres which one of them cleared - the highest jump in the UK in 2007. The effect on RAVEN was very positive.

KISSES FOR ME JOINS GOOD BREEDING

Young Sadler's Wells mare is added to the team

5th Dec 2007

In a focussed attempt to add to the Keeneland and Goffs-purchased holdings of the investment vehicle "Good Breeding", David Allan whittled selections down to a short list of just five enticing mares at Tattersalls yesterday. It turned out that these five were sold in the range of 180,000 - 350,000 guineas, all within grasp. One was passed, one saw Allan cautiously under-bidding whilst waiting for the eventual purchase and one made well above Allan's valuation but endorsed the market trend that places a premium on untried youth - in this case, a 4 year old Danehill mare rated just 61 on the track and in foal for the first time.

Lot 2249 was the actual purchase and always the first choice as an individual. At 300,000 guineas, Allan just outlasted efforts from truly renowned judges such as Seamus Burns (Lodge Park), Barouche Stud and Brian Grassick. She is KISSES FOR ME, a 6 year old black type placed 2 year old winner by SADLER'S WELLS out of a young GULCH mare who has already produced two other winners including "Kisses" full sister, a recent Gr.1 placed 2 year old winner. The 2nd dam is double Gr.1 and quintuple Gr.2 winner SABIN, by LYPHARD.

KISSES FOR ME has a FUSAICHI PEGASUS yearling filly, an ELUSIVE QUALITY filly foal and is in foal on an early cover to excellent U.S. sire PULPIT.

HINTLESHAM THOROUGHBREDS' PATIENCE REWARDED

Sempre Libera looks to have a win in her soon

2nd Dec 2007

Finishing second at Kempton may not amount to a headline, but it certainly felt like one for patient members of the Allan Bloodlines racing club HINTLESHAM THOROUGHBREDS.

Having started the season most acceptably with the club's 2006 winning filly SALONGA placing twice after a comeback run, a combination of a hock injury, monsoon rains then very firm ground and an interrupted programme for the Club's other filly added up to a period of considerable frustration.

That other filly was, and is, a lovely 2 year old filly named SEMPRE LIBERA, trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam. Having aimed for a July/August start, she finally made it to the track yesterday for her debut.

Ridden by the excellent Hayley Turner, SEMPRE LIBERA dwelt a little but then travelled well, executing an excellent run up the inside to follow the favourite home and finish 2nd to the delight of those in attendance.

DIAMOND BACK TO FORM WITH A WIN

Allan Showjumping Team picks up momentum again

1st Dec 2007

On a day when team rider John Crippen won two classes at the Addington Manor Christmas Classic Show, LOUGHNATOUSA DIAMOND made the step up from Foxhunter to Grade C with a victory by a full three seconds in the jump-off.

Competing against good horses and the country's top riders, the John Crippen / Diamond combination "went for it" especially at the last obstacle, clearing it like a Grand National fence at full gallop and somehow getting over the back rail.

SO NEARLY A FAIRYTALE

But a very good story even so

25th Nov 2007

This morning at the Boulta (West Waterford) Point to Point, David Allan was on hand to see his first every Point to Point runner.

SHAHBASH is a 4 year old son of Allan Stallion SHAHRASTANI out of a SHERNAZAR mare, bred by Allan and brought up largely at Danni and Stephen O'Neill's Fawley House Stud. Somehow he has just stuck around and become a favourite, but reality met him head on today when he competed for the first time at anything, prepared by Conna trainer Sean Aherne who was introduced to Allan by Tim Beecher of showjumping fame.

Starting 2nd favourite after a sparkling piece of work the week before, SHAHBASH travelled well throughout and jumped immaculately. Immaculately, that is, until overhauling the leader and favourite at the last en route seemingly to an exciting debut win, but taking the fence too low and taking a fall at the last - fortunately, a soft fall.

Nevertheless, this fellow looks to be a nice prospect.

GOFFS MARE SALE YIELDS GOOD VALUE AS EVER

Allan Bloodlines comes away with three in foal mares

24th Nov 2007

SHIODA is a seven year old mare by BAHRI out of a BLUSHING GROOM member of the rich in black type family of LAHIB and GENERAL HOLME. Last night, she became an Allan Bloodlines purchase for €130,000 and the property of a British investor.

Characterised by having already produced 2 year old black type in her first foal, and having a list of good 2 year olds under her own first dam, this attractive mare is a very exciting prospect and not at all expensive.

PRINCESS MAGDALENA has a South African flavour being half sister to a current black type filly in that country - a GB bred daughter of ACT ONE - but she is also half sister to recent UK 2 year old Gr.3 winner DIKTATORIAL. In foal to Allan favourite HAWK WING on an early cover, this young winning daugher of PENNEKAMP and a very effective dam of five other winners, REASON TO DANCE, multiple black type placed including 2nd in the Falmouth Stakes then Gr.2 and now Gr.1 has joined the family.

Also in the team now is the NIGHT SHIFT mare BEECHESVILLE a four year old granddaughter of COCKADE with a splash of black type right through her first dam. In foal to Darley first season sire LIBRETTIST on a good mid March cover, BEECHESVILLE did not make her reserve and was bought privately by Allan, working with two other equal partners in a three way professional "punt".

NEW BOY SECOND FIRST TIME OUT

Loughnatousa Jimbo shows what he can do

19th Nov 2007

At a training show at Patchetts in North London, the Allan Bloodlines Showjumping Team's newest recruit had is first outing since arriving.

Indoors, on a tight 1.20 Open circuit, Jimbo cruised through to a clear and followed up with a second clear in the jump-off. Not pushed hard by rider John Crippen, the grey showed the benefit of his and John's batural talent, of Tim Beecher's work with him since he was a foal and of Bernice Cuthbert's expertise in settling him in and taking him forward.

A Grade B qualified competitor, 1.20 is not a stern test but as horse and rider get to know each other, this was an excellent step forward.

ANOTHER KEENELAND MARE PURCHASE

Extraordinary value or so it seems

16th Nov 2007

Book 7 is a long way from the fireworks of Book 1 where Allan Bloodlines secured two mares last week, but another mother joined the broodmare band on the penultimate day of the sale.

CAFE CONCERTO is a seven year old mare by Allan favourite TREMPOLINO. Her 2yo ROYAL APPLAUSE may or may not come good and the same can be said for her yearling by JOHAR - a highly rated mating - and an exciting foal by MARIAH'S MON - with similar questions over her covering by SAARLAND, a not very fertile Darby Dan stallion of special meaning to that farm, but this is one extraordinary family.

The young mare's dam is half sister to CHRIS EVERT, offering a host of top class horses in her 2nd dam underpinned by brand new performances such as the latest Coolmore stallion EXPENSIVE ART. CAFE CONCERTO herself is half sister to a Peruvian champion with much other Northern black type in her 1st dam.

CAFE CONCERTO will foal down at Darby Dan Farm in Lexington and, all going well, move over to England or Ireland in foal to a stallion that works on both sides of the pond.

KEENELAND PURCHASES FOR ALLAN'S CLIENTS

Two mares secured from Book 1

6th Nov 2007

The world record price for a broodmare was set yesterday on the first day of Keeneland's November Breeding Stock Sale when Sheikh Mohammed's man John Ferguson signed the ticket at $10,500,000 for the Sadler's Wells Gr.1 winner PLAYFUL ACT - barren though she was. Available only because of the disperal of the late Robert Sangster's stock, this mare demonstrates strong support for recent stallion acquisitions at Darley.

In the meantime, mere mortals battled for seven and six figure mares in a strong market, although the emphasis was on young mares with potential - and a good race record themselves.

Acting for a new investment fund with a single principal investor, Allan Bloodlines as Fund Manager whittled a lot of viewing down to a list of nine mares for the first two days. Final "looks" reduced the number further to six serious targets with one or two early "markers" to indicate levels.

The first purchase on Monday afternoon was NO FRILLS ($380,000), a stunning mare by one of the world's best broodmare sires DARSHAAN. She has already produced a recent Stakes Winning Group Placed Singspiel filly and has a big family herself whether going right back to KOTASHAAN or recently to Goodwood Listed winning 2 year old MEERISS. In foal on an early cover to stallion of the moment EL PRADO, this mare has taken up residence at Darby Dan Farm.

Joining her is a grey or roan mare named CAREFREE CHEETAH ($375,000. Dam of a Gr.3 placed 2yo winner and another winner, this TREMPOLINO mare is a full sister to ARKADIAN HERO and is in foal to the massively popular MR GREELEY, believed to be a colt, also on an early cover.

KAZAKHSTAN PURCHASING CONTINUES TO DEVELOP

Five fiilles head for Almaty

2nd Nov 2007

By now, the association between certain Kazakh owners and Allan Bloodlines has developed into firm friendship following several visits in both directions. For three years, purchases from Tattersalls - either at the Autumn Horses in Training, December Fillies or February Sale have resulted in track records being set and broken and many but not yet all of the leading races being won.

In the current year, one 4 year old - Flying Key - has flown right to the top and, having won several top prizes, was unlucky in the valuable President's Cup finishing fourth after losing lengths at the start. But the 3 year olds, purchased in the strong market of late 2006, were less successful, only one of them winning (twice) and another looking a good 4 year old prospect over distance.

At the Horses in Training Sale at Tattersalls this week, the Allan Bloodlines team and the visiting clients concentrated hard on development potential and bought five lovely fillies at sensible prices. A squad by Night Shift x 2, Noverre, Barathea and Captain Rio is heading for Almaty with high hopes of returning to or exceeding the heights hit in 2004-6 on the track in this most exciting of countries.

Meanwhile, back home, the first foals of the best of the earlier winners are about to turn into yearlings.

NEW STRENGTH FOR ALLAN BLOODLINES SHOWJUMPING

Jimbo joins Raven, Diamond and Rafa

21st Oct 2007

The Allan Bloodlines Showjumping Team has progressed enormously in a short space of time. Loughnatousa Raven and Loughnatousa Diamond are proven winners and - whilst still young horses - have demonstrated the ability to rise to the top. Raven, in particular, finished 4th amongst interntional horses and riders at Addington, turning many wise heads in the process. Grades B and A beckon.

Loughnatousa Rafa, younger still, has almost limitless scope and is becoming bolder and more forward with the benefit of cross country schooling instilling confidence.

Now, the Team is strengthened further by David Allan's purchase of Loughnatousa Jimbo, a grey gelding that has already placed at 1.45 level at an international show.

The next step is to attract greater corporate support in return for an advertising opporunity and to aim Raven and Jimbo for great things this winter.

SATISFYING WEEK AT TATTERSALLS

A dozen yearlings purchased by Allan Bloodlines

19th Oct 2007

Twelve yearlings were purchased by Allan Bloodlines at Tattersalls Yearling Sales (Book 2) earlier this week during a very busy effort.

After exhaustive searches by Allan and Danni O'Neill, Allan purchased the first six figure lot of the sale when paying 150,000 guineas for a stunning daughter of Hawk Wing. The filly is for a British client and will be trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam after first spending three months being started at Fawley House Stud, the nursery and trainer combination that produced Authorised and Tariq.

The majority of the other purchases were for trainer James Given who again joined the team. Some exciting "value" purchases included a Desert Style full sister to a recent multiple black type winner, a very smart colt by Dr Fong, and a racy son of Fath, sire of the Allan Bloodlines multiple winners Fathom Five and Don't Panic.

Others sent to Fawley House Stud included a strong Beat Hollow filly destined for Peter Chapple-Hyam and a colt by Pyrus to go into training with Bryan Smart.

DON'T PANIC SLUICES UP AT GOODWOOD

Repeat course and distance win

14th Oct 2007

This afternoon at Goodwood on Soft ground in which he revelled, DON'T PANIC followed up his September course and distance success with an emphatic win in another mile handicap. Goodwood has been kind recently to Allan Bloodlines purchased and managed runners.

Given a most artful ride by Kerrin McEvoy, the chestnut gelding came up the middle of the course in complete command with a furlong to go. He had achieved that advantage by being taken to the back from his wide draw and worked all across the back of the field to take the rail approaching the bend. With the leading jockeys heading for the stands side because of the ground, DON'T PANIC was left free and clear to choose his line.

Cruising into the final furlong he pulled away to win by four lengths. The handicapper may hit him hard if taking this literally - The Racing Post rated the run at 101 - but the ground played a part and the field was strung out at the finish.

Owner Tony Webb and guests were again treated to a great day on a top class racecourse courtesy of DON'T PANIC, trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam and jockey Kerrin McEvoy.

ALLAN BLOODLINES OWN SOUTH AFRICAN BREDS MOUNT UP

Three colts and a filly so far

6th Oct 2007

The first of the Allan owned mares to produce in South Africa was the imported daughter of DARSHAAN, out of a HABITAT mare thus making her a rarity anywhere, MESSILA ROSE. Having been covered Southern Hemisphere time in Newmarket, the mare produced a bay filly by Juddmonte sire BEAT HOLLOW in quarantine at L'Ormarins before transferring to Arc En Ciel. MESSILA ROSE is half sister to a multiple Australian black type producer as well as triple SA winner SUNNYDALE. Her 2nd Dam has no less than eight Group 1 winners and placed under her and MESSILA ROSE herself is the dam of Listed placed (at Ascot) winner Sunley Peace. She visits ALADO on a particularly strong mating.

Next to foal down - at Hemel n Aarde - was the CORDOBA mare LA CAMPINA purchased at the Sibaya sale. She produced a chestnut colt by MODUS VIVENDI, a sire whose yearlings impressed Allan greatly. This mare goes to ALBERT HALL - again on a superb genetic match.

The third to arrive, at the very end of September, was another chestnut colt - this time by MUHTAFAL. Another Sibaya purchase - this one especially to go to TIGER DANCE - the mare is JULIA'S CHOICE, a Gr.3 placed winner by JALLAD with a winner and a very promising maiden on the ground.

Moving into October, Allan's New Zealand bred CAPE CROSS mare FAIREST CAPE gave birth to her first foal, a bay colt by REQUIEM. A big mare and a big foal. FAIREST CAPE did not win when trained in KZN but is closely related to bang up to date Australasian black type. She visits MARTINELLI.

Awaiting arrivals are the ARGOSY mare COUNT AGAIN, full sister to WAVES OF ARGOSYand half sister to the dam of HEIR APPARENT, in foal to LAKE CONISTON and due to visit NATIONAL EMBLEM, and the NATIONAL EMBLEM mare SELIKA, a winner in KZN when trained for Allan by Alistair Gordon now in foal to CAPTAIN AL and due to visit LAKE CONISTON.

Barren import ELEGANT, dam of three UK winners, is by MARJU from the close family of CAPE CROSS, DIKTAT et al. Owned in partnership, she will visit NATIONAL EMBLEM.

Fillies off the track to be covered are 3 times SA winning SHAHRASTANI mare SUNNYDALE, bred and owned by Allan and trained by Vaughan Marshall. She is half sister to MESSILA ROSE (above), and Sir Michael Stoute trained winner RANDOM CALL, a WAR CHANT daughter of an Argentinian Group 1 winner. Both go to CAPTAIN AL.

LIGHTUP THE WORLD, a young RAKEEN mare from the Equimark Mare Sale, unfortunately slipped but has been covered by TIGER DANCE and is tested in foal.

SUCCESSFUL GOFFS MILLION VISIT

Allan Bloodlines purchases four yearlings

3rd Oct 2007

In generally strong, occasionally patchy trade, the Allan Bloodlines team of David Allan and Danni O'Neill purchased four colts from a strong Goffs Million Yearling Sale catalogue.

Trainer James Given joined the effort and flew back to England with two colts for different clients. One order for a later maturing type was filled with the €100,000 purchase of a strong HAWK WING colt with a stallion's pedigree if all were to go swimmingly. Not only was the individual just the right sort but the mating that produced him rated extraordinarily well, as did those of all four purchases. In sharp contrast to the HAWK WING, an extremely tough looking MUJADIL colt should make a fairly early 2 year old for clients of Given.

Team Allan also purchased a most attractive DR FONG colt for a special client, with trainer to be decided shortly, and the quartet was completed by a cost effective purchase of a colt by DANEHILL DANCER. Out of a black type mare by a "sire of the moment", this fellow is in the process of being put into a partnership including Allan and close associates.

WEST HAM COLT SCORES AT HAMILTON

Another Allan Bloodlines 2yo winner from Tatts Ireland

24th Sep 2007

The chant of C'MON YOU IRONS may have been ringing across St James Park at the weekend, but it was also being yelled at Hamilton or at Racing UK screens this afternoon when the Orpen colt so named won his maiden.

Owned by two groups of West Ham fans in partnership with Allan Bloodlines, this very smart looking, good quality sort started well fancied to turn over the odds-on favourite and duly obliged. Held back by Allan and tremendously in-form trainer Bryan Smart for easier ground, the son of Orpen travelled well throughout, sharing the lead and going ahead approaching the final furlong.

Repelling a renewed challenge from the favourite under an excellent ride from Tom Eaves, C'MON YOU IRONS - an Allan Bloodlines purchase at the Tattersalls Ireland Septmeber Yearling Sale last Autumn - notched up a handy win and is the sort to improve again.

HAMPSHIRE ON THE UPGRADE

Third win since purchase and second victory at Galway

11th Sep 2007

Mr Coleman and Partners had another excellent day - or rather evening - at Galway yesterday when Allan Bloodlines purchase HAMPSHIRE won quite comfortably.

Scoring his third win since purchase, and a second over the course and distance (7f), HAMPSHIRE had performed well on both his starts since winning at the Galway Festival Meeting in July. 7 lbs higher in the weights than on that occasion, he was asked to lead or nearly lead and went clear in the straight.

GOOD SHOPPING AT FAIRYHOUSE

Allan Bloodlines' Happy Hunting Ground

6th Sep 2007

The Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale has been the most happy of hunting grounds for the Allan Bloodlines team. Royal Ascot winning 2 year old Titus Alone and current high quality sprinter Fathom Five are the speediest of the Allan Bloodlines purchases at Fairyhouse, whilst Little Venice and Keyaki have won eleven races between them at 6-7 furlongs, several of which have been at Newmarket and Goodwood.

All but one of Allan's purchases at Fairyhouse over several years have won - including 2 and 3yo winner Don't Panic who won earlier this week at Goodwood. This excludes the 2007 2 year olds although an Orpen colt has now won, a Mujadil colt has been 2nd and will improve and a Kyllachy filly is not a 2 year old but may be another Keyaki in the making.

At the 2007 renewal of the sale this week, plenty of nuggets were available to be mined from the first day's rather patchy offering and Allan Bloodlines secured four yearlings.

To be trained in Newmarket for clients, a smart colt from the first crop of top 2 year old Elusive City together with a tough, neat looking half brother to Prior's Lodge by the illustrious Peintre Celebre are on their way to England. Pyrus (Mr Prospector) is a low profile stallion but nevertheless won the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood (Gr.2) before picking up Gr.3 and Listed races in the USA. His colt from a family well known to Allan was another purchase and the day ended with the capture of a Royal Applause filly with good updates in her pedigree and a potentially high class full brother.

The Pyrus colt will be offered for partnership and the Royal Applause filly already has suitors but will be reviewed in the New Year.

DON'T PANIC - KERRIN MCEVOY DIDN'T

Nice win at Goodwood for Fairyhouse graduate

4th Sep 2007

Allan Bloodlines purchased four yearlings on the first day of Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sales today at Fairyhouse encouraged in the later afternoon by DON'T PANIC's exciting win at Goodwood for their purchasing and management client Tony Webb.

Selected from the same sale two years ago, the son of Fath had won impressively at 2 as well as placing at Glorious Goodwood and in the valuable sales race at The Curragh. At 3, DON'T PANIC started erratically but benefited from gelding, returning to be 3rd at Sandown before starting at Goodwood on ground firmer than he likes.

Declared in Goodwood's sharp mile rather than the 7 furlong alternative, DON'T PANIC needed to be dropped in and eased round and down the early hill. Kerrin McEvoy achieved this perfectly and wisely came a bit wide with his run. The chestnut ran arrow straight and confirmed trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam's optimism, pulling out all the stops and nailing the 2nd on the line in a thrilling photo finish.

Tony Webb and guests were on hand to enjoy the moment to the full.

HAMPSHIRE WINS AT GALWAY

Joyous festival victory

1st Aug 2007

A winner at the Galway Festival is a cause for major celebration when just being there is cause enough and 4 year old HAMPSHIRE fulfilled ambitions held for him at the time of purchase.

Winning for the second time for Allan Bloodlines client Mr W Coleman and partners and for trainer Pat Fahy, HAMPSHIRE ran first or second throughout and was sent on by Pat Smullen to win well. Coincidentally, HAMPSHIRE was partnered in front for quite a way by ZHUKOV, also twice a winner and bred by another Allan Bloodlines client from a mare purchased at Tattersalls and sent under a Brain International recommended mating to ALLIED FORCES. It worked! But on this occasion ZHUKOV finished 4th.

Purchased by Allan Bloodlines (see earlier report) for Mr Coleman at about the same time as subsequent double hurdling winner ASSIR, HAMPSHIRE is a royally bred GREEN DESERT son. Allan bought two more nicely bred fillies by DIESIS and AL JABR to race for the same connections at the recent July Sale as well as a likely bumper horse, now at grass.

TWO WINS OUT OF TWO ON POLYTRACK FOR GRAND VIZIER

Rare dead heat at Wolverhampton

27th Jul 2007

3 year old gelding GRAND VIZIER made it two out of two over Wolverhampton's extended mile this afternoon, when dead-heating as joint winner in handicap company.

He clearly enjoys polytrack but his intermediate turf run at Sandown could just have been on an off day.

Whilst the Racing Post stated that GRAND VIZIER had enjoyed a good run throughout, his back end suddenly rose at one point as he was struck into from behind. Fortunately only suffering superficial cuts, one of which was a couple of millimetres from a dangerous place, GRAND VIZIER did well to finish resolutely. He was joined on the line by the fast finishing HOH WOTANITE but appeared to have held off the late challenge. However, after long deliberation, the judge called a dead heat. But a win is a win.

TIGER DANCE / GIANT'S CAUSEWAY PRESS RELEASE

Storm Cat over Rahy does it again

26th Jul 2007

P R E S S R E L E A S E

26th July 2007

GIANT'S CAUSEWAY AND ANOTHER ON THE TIGER DANCE CROSS IN GR. 1&2 VICTORIES

Storm Cat over Rahy does it again

GIANT'S CAUSEWAY, like full brother TIGER DANCE by STORM CAT out of a RAHY mare, kept himself in the spotlight the other day on the Turf Track at Colonial Downs when his excellent 3 year old son RED GIANT took the $1,000,000 ($600,000 to the winner) Virginia Derby Gr.2.

Ironically, the Virginia Derby was worth more than double the Gr.1 Eddie Read Handicap at Del Mar - which was won by a colt by STORM CAT out of - yes indeed - a mare by RAHY. Named AFTER MARKET, this $300,000 purchase flew the flag for this remarkable cross in the best of company.

TIGER DANCE, GIANT'S CAUSEWAY, YOU'RESOTHRILLING (favourite to be Champion 2yo filly in Europe) all full siblings STORM CAT over RAHY. AFTR MARKET, Gr.1 winner last weekend, STORM CAT over RAHY.

See TIGER DANCE at the Highlands Stallion Parade on Saturday 28th July. R35,000 (10,000 + 25,000 31 May) and some shares remaining at R130,000 + VAT (2 mares first season). Around 65 mares are already committed.

OAKLANDS INTERACTIVE

News of the S.Africa Stud Farm and Stallions

18th Jul 2007

P R E S S R E L E A S E
18th July 2007

When a stud establishes or re-establishes itself, there is only one formula. Get the foundations right, get your head down, work hard, consolidate. At Oaklands, Paul and Emma Timms have done just that and have clearly “come up for air” in recent months as their operation increases in scope.

The permanent client-owned boarding mare population is rising towards 75. This does not include the Oaklands owned mares, 42 of which are going to TIGER DANCE. Whilst there is of course an emphasis on supporting the Oaklands stallions, more mares from Oaklands Estate will visit other stallions than before. Oaklands Interactive!

Over 60 yearlings from Oaklands are destined for the next round of sales, and in a happy coincidence during the drafting of this Press Release, NINETTE DE VALOIS, trained by Mike de Kock and a R 750,000 purchase from Oaklands at the Nationals, has just bolted up on debut at Clairwood in the colours of Mrs Oppenheimer.

SECOND EMPIRE does not have many runners in South Africa yet, but SILVER EMPIRE ran into a Gr.1 place on July Day by finishing 3rd in the Garden Province Stakes, beaten less than 2½ lengths having been left more than twice that distance at the start. This Listed winning filly is of mixed Australian and Zimbabwean lineage and is an excellent advert for using SECOND EMPIRE, the Fairy King Gr.1 winning Champion 2 Year Old from the brilliant FLAME OF TARA / SALSABIL / MARJU family, very close-up.

At R 25,000, there is not much trade in him, but you could catch us at a weak moment…… Why not much trade? Because he is a proven sire of a very good number of Black Type Winners in Australia, Hong Kong and Europe; because he is a very good looking horse; and because he is bred as he is.

ALADO is not a speculative purchase. He is a stallion here to be “made”, all going well, by his owner breeder. Kirsten Rausing, owner of Lanwades Stud (UK) and Staffordstown Stud (Ireland) is one of Europe’s most prominent owner/breeders, as well as standing Champion Sire Selkirk along with several others. Kirsten has developed one of the strongest families in the Stud Book through her beloved Champion racemares ALBANOVA and ALBORADA, daughters by excellent broodmare sire ALZAO of the DARSHAAN Stakes Winner ALOUETTE.

ALBORADA, winner of the Dubai Champion Stakes Gr.1 at Newmarket – twice – plus the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood and Pretty Polly at The Curragh, both Gr.2 is the dam of ALADO who is a direct son of DANZIG. And we know what that can mean.

ALADO is equally “part of the Lanwades family” and Oaklands was mighty pleased to be asked to stand him. Kirsten Rausing has ten mares at Oaklands to support ALADO, so it seems to all of us that breeding to him with Ms Rausing and Oaklands is as good a low cost “punt” as one could wish for.

Allan Bloodlines is able to offer a very special ALADO deal to breeders supporting TIGER DANCE and/or SECOND EMPIRE. Or MEDAALY whose recent good results from his days in France would merit a separate NewsMemo. Please just ask.

The dam of NINETTE DE VALOIS, the exciting 2yo filly who won today at Clairwood, visits TIGER DANCE. We circulated the news of his and Giant’s CAUSEWAY’s full sister YOU’RESOTHRILLING’s latest win last week and she now sits well on top of the 2yo filly of the year lists in the Cartier European awards. With Syndicate Agreements on their way to new TIGER DANCE shareholders now that strongly negotiated insurances have been placed, we are seeing more interest in individual or double nominations. The remaining shares cost R 130,000 + VAT (2 noms 1st season, thereafter take a year by year view) and nominations are at R 35,000 (10+25) + VAT.

The Oaklands Stallion Parade and Party at Durbanville, held jointly with Arc En Ciel, was part of the “coming up for air” process, and TIGER DANCE can be seen again at the Highlands Stallion Day on 28th July.

NEWMARKET AND DURBAN SALE ACTIVITY

Flood of new money pushes breeding stock prices

15th Jul 2007

"What seemed worth 40,000 guineas was making 70,000" was the way that David Allan summed up the July Sale experience at Newmarket this week. Whilst that made it difficult to buy against existing parameters, it would be churlish to criticise the flood of new Irish and London money being brought into the market in the acquisition of "instant" broodmare assets.

Allan Bloodlines bought less at the sale due to the cancellation of a scheduled flight to Cape Town, but came away with a nice Sadler's Wells filly for a major SA breeder to be covered in England Southern Hemisphere time. In addition, Allan bought several fillies for hurdling and/or breeding in Ireland and made a speculative Singspiel purchase, soon on-sold.

At the same time, Allan Bloodlines' South Africa rep Joanne Knowles signed for two in-foal mares at the Sibaya Sale near Durban to fill gaps left by the cancelled flight, bringing the Allan broodmare band in that country to seven plus two fillies from the track to join beore September.

FATHOM FIVE GETS BLACK TYPE

2nd in a Listed Race at Chester

14th Jul 2007

The progressive 3 year old gelding FATHOM FIVE progressed some more on the tricky Chester track this afternoon, finishing 2nd, beaten half a length, in the Listed City Wall Stakes, the feature race of the day.

Bumped from the left at the start and thus entangled with the horse to his right, FATHOM FIVE broke uncharacteristically slowly and was left flat footed and unbalanced on the swerve of Chester's never-ending turns. Not having been round a bend more than once before - last year - and being the only 3 year old amongst older horses in the race, he was thoroughly unbalanced until Royston ffrench got him on an even keel and pressed the "go" button, fully five lengths behind the runaway leader. That leader - a 5 year old in-foal mare - had set a blistering pace yet it seemed for a few strides as if FATHOM FIVE would make up for lost lengths when he set off in the hottest of hot pursuits. He got within half a length as they passed the post - a great success for the winner's owners and about-to-be breeders, and a highly meritorious and gutsy effort from FATHOM FIVE.

TIGER DANCE SUPER SISTER DOES IT AGAIN

You'resothrilling takes the Gr.2 Cherry Hinton

11th Jul 2007

YOU’RESOTHRILLING (Storm Cat - Mariah’s Dance) continued to fly the flag for her full brother TIGER DANCE by storming out of the dip at Newmarket to take the Gr.2 Cherry Hinton Stakes for 2 year old fillies. The Moyglare Stud Stakes Gr.1 is the obvious target and the filly remains ante-post favourite for next year’s Guineas. A massively valuable filly to add to Mariah’s Dance progeny list including GIANT’S CAUSEWAY and TIGER DANCE, the latter standing in South Africa and being syndicated by Allan Bloodlines.

Documentation is on its way to confirmed shareholders now that insurance arrangements are in place at competitive rates, and some shares remain to be purchased either immediately by reservation, perhaps for confirmation at the Stallion Parade at Highlands on 28th July. Some 65 mares are already committed to TIGER DANCE through shareholders, each having two nominations, and a number of nominations sold. The ceiling on mare numbers will be 80 for a first season sire.

A PROGRESSIVE HICKSTEAD FOR ALLAN SHOWJUMPING

Three young horses and their rider acquit themselves well

30th Jun 2007

The Allan Bloodlines Showjumping Team made further progress at Hickstead this week as the young horses jumped seven rounds at the testing venue without having a pole down, until tiredness eventually told in the last round jumped.

LOUGHTATOUSA RAFA made enormous progress after a Tim Beecher coaching session with rider John Crippen in the evening before competition. 7th then 4th in his two Foxhunter classes each with over 100 in the field, RAFA and John conjured up very impressive double clear rounds. Still in Newcomers, RAFA's potential is massive.

LOUGHNATOUSA RAVEN was a doubtful starter, having spent nearly a week in her box with a bruised foot, but she went double clear in the 1.25 Open qualifier, albeit intentionally steadily after her break. On the next day, the big mare finished 4th (of approaching 100) in the Grade C Qualifier for the Main Ring jumping superbly but the time off told in the Final when a combination of tiredness and sticky going saw her have two down.

LOUGHNATOUSA DIAMOND was again "the Man" coming off his warm-up victory at Weston Lawns. A qualifier for the 1.25 Open Final by finishing 7th of approaching 100 by virtue of extraordinarily powerful and brave escapology when getting a combination wrong, DIAMOND went clear in the Main Ring, finishing 6th of 12 with international horses in the field - a highly creditable first effort in such an Arena. And to cap that, he finished 3rd in a huge 1.30 Open class on soggy ground the next day.

These good young horses have a brilliant young rider in John Crippen, who is nevertheless always ready both to appreciate the skills of trainer Bernice Cuthbert and to learn more from the coaching of Tim Beecher. Long may the learning curve for all concerned continue upwards.

YES HE DOES - FATHOM FIVE GETS THE RACE BACK

Appeal at Shaftesbury Avenue successful

29th Jun 2007

Having passed the post first at Newmarket last Saturday, FATHOM FIVE was long odds-on favourite to keep the race in the resultant Stewards Enquiry and the bookies are rarely wrong. Yet they, the course photographers and many professionals watching were astonished when the Newmarket panel reversed the placings.

In a lengthy and meticulous process this morning at Racing's HQ in Shaftesbury Avenue, David Allan and trainer Bryan Smart put their case through the advocacy of Paul Darling QC. Formally, it was the trainer who appealed the result and it was the trainer whose appeal was upheld, thus returning the placings to the order in which the horses crossed the line.

FATHOM FIVE has now won four races, three of them in succession this season. He has risen in the weights from his winning mark of 79 at Newmarket in May, via a win off 86 at Leicester and a win off 92 at Newmarket, and now to 97 for his next effort.

Jockey Philip Robinson was strongly supported by owner and trainer. His own appeal did not result in exoneration but the severity of the Newmarket Stewards' verdict was downgraded somewhat. The rider of SOHRAAB Robert Havlin had not appealed his longer ban for striking FATHOM FIVE after the line. SOHRAAB's trainer H. Morrison had neither attended the race at Newmarket nor the appeal hearing with its the state of the art, cinema-scale video facilities.

FATHOM FIVE WINS YET AGAIN - OR DOES HE?

Pending appeal....

24th Jun 2007

On a dramatic afernoon at Newmarket, FATHOM FIVE proved how progressive he is by winning his third consecutive race off a mark of 92, only to lose the race in the Stewards' Room. Temporarily or otherwise.....

Headed by SOHRAAB inside the final furlong, FATHOM FIVE fought hard to get back and succeeded to flash past the post a head in the lead. He had drifted off the rail towards SOHRAAB early in the final furlong but there was no visible contact other than jockeys' whip arms. Betting on the Stewards Enquiry showed FATHOM FIVE a very confident 2/5 to keep the race.

Nevertheless, the Stewards reversed the placings, penalising jockey Philip Robinson 4 days and, in a separate incident, the other Jockey Robert Havlin 7 days for hitting FATHOM FIVE in apparent anger after crossing the line.

FATHOM FIVE connections will go to Shaftesbury Avenue to appeal against the Stewards' decision. Whatever the outcome, this 5 furlong speed machine is very much going the right way and is a tough young battler.
