CWM RHONDDA WINS FOR HINTLESHAM THOROUGHBREDS

5 lengths victory rewards patience and offers much promise

19th May 2009

Hintlesham Thoroughbreds members enjoyed their second win of the young turf season when CWM RHONDDA carried the club's colours to emphatic victory at Yarmouth this afternoon.

Almost a June foal and a big girl, this filly has always shown excellent pace at home with Peter Chapple-Hyam but has been slow to come to hand on the racecourse. Placed last season and always a hard trier when in space, she has been shy of heavy traffic around her. But an improving run last time took her to favouritism in a 10 furlong handicap this afternoon and she duly obliged.

Jack Mitchell, champion apprentice material, has got to know CWM RHONDDA and gave her no option but to run prominently. The pair travelled very well throughout and when the question was asked, CWM RHONDDA scooted clear to win by 5 lengths.

Bred by David Allan in USA, the filly is by old timer GULCH out of the RED RANSOM mare FRAYNE, of good European family and closely related to two 2008 Stakes Winners in France. FRAYNE is dam of multiple winner MARCH TO VICTORY and has a newly arrived filly foal by Coolmore's LION HEART. She visits TALE OF THE CAT.

HINTLESHAM THOROUGHBREDS members have been very patient with CWM RHONDDA and now hope to see her progress further. With end April Epsom winner FATHOM FIVE being targeted for the Epsom Dash on Derby Day, and YEOMAN OF ENGLAND to make his seasonal debut soon, the next few months hold promise.
