NINETY DEGREES

6 year old bay gelding
by SHALFORD ex WEST WEST

NINETY DEGREES is a Straight Bat Racing favourite who puts in a tremendous effort. He is the mainstay in the winter when the ground has sufficient juice in it for his liking. He is twice a winner and has placed several times whilst generating great affection for him. By SHALFORD, a top class son of THATCHING and himself sire of a South African champion 2 year old, our fellow is out of a Gr.2 placed winning granddaughter of SADLER’S WELLS and daughter of South African Gr.1 winner BOLD WEST. His half brother by JET MASTER was purchased by the Managers at the National Yearling Sales and will be assessed over the next six months or so before moving forward with him.

CARABOSSE

2 year old bay filly
by CASEY TIBBS ex YASNAYA

This filly breezed well at a Ready to Run Sale and has spent a little time chilling after the sale and growing some more. Having not yet started her career, she “could be anything” and has all the right credentials.

A daughter of a Listed placed winning daughter of good broodmare sire COASTAL, CARABOSSE has three winning siblings and a yearling half brother by JET MASTER that realised R 550,000. Her good dam is half sister to Gr.2 winning Gr.1 placed MUSCOVY and the brilliantly fast VISTULA. The CASEY TIBBS mating is a good one and the filly is going nicely in early training.

The Trainer

The Managers

Vaughan Marshall is a champion trainer characterised by all the necessary attributes of expert horsemanship, hard work, dedication, flair and detailed knowledge of the racing programme along with a most generous and welcoming spirit. Former Champion Trainer of KwaZulu Natal and now based in the Cape, Vaughan has 25 years of equine excellence and achievement behind him that includes victories in no less than 20 Gr.1 races. The J&B Met, Cape Guineas (x3), Gold Cup, Durban Merchants, Cape Merchants, The Gilbeys and The Diadem are some of the many trophies that have fallen to Marshall’s charges and his team will continue to compete year round in the Cape as well as having excursions to Durban and Johannesburg for the right races. Training with Vaughan can be described as a continuous pleasure, through thick and through thin, interspersed by moments of ecstasy calling for the most joyous of celebrations. As he puts it himself “Nothing gives me greater joy than giving that euphoric feeling of winning to my owners”. Amen to that

Investing in the future of South African racing & breeding
Joanne Knowles
Joanne Knowles, Allan Bloodlines, Cape Town
Allan Bloodlines is an international bloodstock management company with a broad portfolio including a thriving and growing South Africa operation.

Established twenty years ago, the rate of success has accelerated to the point that over the past three seasons, 75% of Allan’s owned and/or managed runners have won at least one race and 94% have won or placed - a truly extraordinary record.

Purchaser of the sale topper at the National Yearling Sales in Johannesburg, and of many high-value, lower cost yearlings as well, Allan Bloodlines has also imported around fifty mares and fillies for clients and for itself for breeding in South Africa.

An Exclusive Racing Club has always been a cornerstone of the Allan operations and Straight Bat Racing fills that role in South Africa.
