NEW to Straight Bat Racing – a Royal Ascot winner and a proven winner in South Africa

TITUS ALONE (IRE)

By Titus Livius (Machiavellian) out of Swan Sea by Sea Hero

Titus” won the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot as a 2 year old, on very fast ground and won two more races in the UK.

He arrived in South Africa – imported to enjoy the fast ground – but took time to acclimatise. After coming to himself, he regained his consistent form and is a winner in The Cape and multiple placed in 07/08 before having a well earned farm break.

Back in training, he is being aimed at a strong Summer campaign.

ALSO NEW

A 2 year old to be selected from two or three candidates. The one going best, soonest, will join STRAIGHT BAT RACING to give Members those Great Expectations that come with an untried 2 year old.

Selection will be made from juveniles by the likes of JET MASTER, JALLAD, LAKE CONISTON and REQUIEM, good sires of winners all.

Vaughan Marshall is a master with his 2 year olds and their Summer campaigns, winning with so many as to have “made” several stallions in their first seasons.

NINETY DEGREES

NINETY DEGREES is a Straight Bat Racing favourite who puts in a tremendous effort. He prefers easier ground and can go well when not absolutely firm in the summer whilst being a mainstay in the winter. He is twice a winner and has placed several times whilst generating great affection for him. By SHALFORD, a top class son of THATCHING and himself sire of a South African champion 2 year old, our fellow is out of a Gr.2 placed winning granddaughter of SADLER’S WELLS and daughter of South African Gr.1 winner BOLD WEST.

Going well at home, he looks in good enough form to add to his list of wins and places.
Prospective BONUS HORSES are Straight Bat Racing’s beautiful American filly

MISS KOOL KAT (USA)

from the great family of Fort Wood – now in foal and returning to training. Fillies often improve for running in foal. “MKK” has thrilled members with her dark flashy looks and her competitive efforts in placing 2nd several times but not yet getting her nose in front. Now it’s her turn.

CARABOSSE

by Casey Tibbs out of a Listed placed winning daughter of good broodmare sire COASTAL, has three winning siblings and a yearling half brother by JET MASTER that realised R 550,000. She has had a break and been given time to come to herself. She, too, may be added to the roster when up to race fitness.

The Trainer

The Managers

Vaughan Marshall is a champion trainer characterised by all the necessary attributes of expert horsemanship, hard work, dedication, flair and detailed knowledge of the racing programme along with a most generous and welcoming spirit. Former Champion Trainer of KwaZulu Natal and now based in the Cape, Vaughan has 25 years of equine excellence and achievement behind him that includes victories in no less than 20 Gr.1 races. The J&B Met, Cape Guineas (x3), Gold Cup, Durban Merchants, Cape Merchants, The Gilbeys and The Diadem are some of the many trophies that have fallen to Marshall’s charges and his team will continue to compete year round in the Cape as well as having excursions to Durban and Johannesburg for the right races. Training with Vaughan can be described as a continuous pleasure, through thick and through thin, interspersed by moments of ecstasy calling for the most joyous of celebrations. As he puts it himself “Nothing gives me greater joy than giving that euphoric feeling of winning to my owners”. Amen to that
