Horses for 2009/10

TITUS ALONE - 6 times winner including at Royal Ascot and three times in the Cape

7 year old Ch. gelding - by TITUS LIVIUS out of SWAN SEA (SEA HERO)

Here is the STRAIGHT BAT RACING flag carrier - six times a winner and many times placed, this tough battler thrills members with his flying runs from behind.  Liable to bite available pieces of human flesh - in fun of course - and to pull extraordinary faces, "TITUS" is universally popular especially when powering home to win.

FLY AMERICAN - an exciting prospect by JET MASTER

3 year old Ch.gelding - By JET MASTER out of WEST WEST (DOLPOUR)

By champion sire JET MASTER the sire of POCKET POWER & JJ THE JET PLANE, FLY AMERICAN is a WINNER for Straight Bat Racing.

This is a strikingly handsome fellow, improving physically all the time.  After placed efforts late at 2, he has won first time out at 3 and is a very exciting sprinting prospect.

CAPE GETAWAY - a new addition

3 year old bay filly by Jallad out of Foveros Song by Foveros

This is a well bred daughter of top sire JALLAD - half sister to a Gr.2 winner/Gr.1 placed and to a multiple Listed winner/Gr.2 placed.  Like most STRAIGHT BAT horses, she is brought in having already shown promising form at 2.

STOP PRESS - Bonus horse Seven Veils wins twice in January including on J&B Met Day then gains Black Type in a Listed Race

SEVEN VEILS - a winner in Durban with Alistair Gordon and moved to Vaughan Marshall due to allergies - now twice a winner for Straight Bat Racing

4 year old filly by Rich Man's Gold out of Silky Dancer by Citidancer

A winner for Straight Bat on 2nd January, 2nd soon afterwards and now a winner on the brilliant J&B Met Day and Listed placed! She will be aimed at additional feature races.

The Trainers

Vaughan Marshall at Milnerton just 20 minutes from the Cape Town Waterfront has trained the winners of many of the country's leading races, some several times over.  His most recent Gr.1 winner of many is VILLANDRY, a top 2yo colt of 2009.

Vaughan has assisted greatly in the development of the STRAIGHT BAT RACING concept not least by sending out four winners for the Club in 2009 alone, as well as many others for Allan Bloodlines.

Alistair Gordon at Summerveld 30 minutes inland from Durban has a great catalogue of success as well, most recently at the highest level with DISCO QUEEN, Equus Champion Sprinting filly.

Like Vaughan, Alistair has trained for Allan Bloodlines since the beginning, winning with David Allan's first SA yearling selection SELIKA (now at stud) as well as the new STRAIGHT BAT RACING filly SEVEN VEILS, another Allan National Sales purchase.

Both of these expert trainers have another very special characteristic.  They are highly personable, welcoming people who heartily reciprocate the interest shown by owners, partners and Straight Bat Members in training horses with them.

Racecourse Entry

Whereas in many cases there will be no charge for entry when Straight Bat Racing has a runner it is important to recognise that the subscription does not include the cost of entry to or space at racecourses on certain major racedays and that the Managers will do their best to communicate to members the available and recommended options within the rules of the racecourse.

Prize Money

Prize Money won by Straight Bat Racing’s horses will be credited to Members pro rata soon after the end of the Season and, due to Ownership through leasing, it cannot be absorbed by purchase related losses. But Members should recognise that there is no guarantee of a financial return. Applicants must read EXPLANATION & RULES before completing an Application Form.
