Rushing away from her field and winning by 5 lengths, 3 year old filly SELIKA romped home at Greyville to win her maiden after going close on her previous two starts.

Trained by Alistair Gordon, the striking chestnut is by NATIONAL EMBLEM out of an Australian bred mare by SCENIC. Selected by David Allan at the Bloodstock South Africa National Yearling Sales of 2004, SELIKA was always going to be a late maturing type and has been brought on with great patience. Sent initially to Jane Trotter at Ambleway to settle her down after the sales and begin to learn her trade, SELIKA showed ability at 2 but needed time to grow up mentally as well as physically. Unlucky not to win as part of Alistair Gordon’s team visiting the Cape and a good second on her return to KZN, SELIKA definitely grew up at Greyville and should be one to follow for further improvement.

In the same colours as winners NINETY DEGREES and SUNNYDALE – who ran a blinder to be 2nd on her return to the track at Durbanville on 21st after a long break – SELIKA becomes the fourth winner from five runners this season for Allan Bloodlines, the other having been 2nd in a photo. Improvement for all is yet to come.
