BURST OF NEW YEAR ACTIVITY FOR ALLAN-BREDS IN SA
In a rush of activity on New Year’s Eve and Day, David Allan breds finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd and 3rd.
ROMEO’S MAGIC (ex Felina) poignantly ended 2020 at Turffontein by shedding his maiden tag as a 3 year old having moved from the late Romeo Francis to St John Gray. The son of Elusive Fort won quite comfortably having previously never troubled the judge, as reflected by his 33/1 starting price.
On New Year’s Day, WITH OUR BLESSING (ex Kilcross) frustratingly finished a hair’s breadth second in what would have been a dead heat in years gone by in Port Elizabeth – shown by a pixel or two has having not quite beaten a raider from Cape Town. Jacques Strydom will surely win with this 3yo soon.
Shortly afterwards, 4x winning SULLENBERGER (ex Free As a Bird) attempted to carry topweight in a strong handicap, admittedly with the benefit of an apprentice’s claim, and finished close 3rd to another Cape Raider and to a stablemate (Alan Grieff) then the beautiful but also frustrating LITTLE DRUMMER BOY (ex Timpanist) (Montana Turner) still a maiden at 5 !! but multiple placed including 4th in a Listed race ran very well after about 6 months off to finish 3rd. Surely a winner soon…..
Free as a Bird’s next generation the 2 year old WARRIOR CAPTAIN (full brother to SULLENBERGER) ran 3rd in a baby race on New year’s Eve (Turffontein) over 1000 metres without being pushed – trained by Weiho Mawing.
Many thanks to all the respective owners, trainers, jockeys and Here’s to 2021!
