Scopey filly makes a smart start to her career

In the colours of Yoshiko Allan, KIMIGAIO (National Emblem – Sapphire Serenade by Harry Hotspur) made a winning debut over the minimum distance at Durbanville Racecourse just outside Cape Town.

The attractive chestnut 2 year old had been an Allan Bloodlines purchase at the National Yearling Sales in 2007, earning R 330,000 for Rob Pickering’s Middlefield Stud. Trained by Vaughan Marshall and ridden expertly by top rider Karl Nesius, she battled hot favourite TRAMPS throughout the last 200 metres and prevailed, going away, by three quarters of a length.
