ENCOURAGING RETURN FOR BEACH BOUND
BEACH BOUND – by Coup de Grace, bought by AllanBloodlines at Cape Premier yearling Sale – looked to be a great disappointment in her four runs in Cape Town. Started in a Graded Stakes, no less, based on work at home – and with Durban Grade 1 ambitions in mind – she missed the break and did not see which way they went, although not beaten badly. Thereafter she ran poorly until two underlying issues were discovered.
Recuperating under the wing of Fran Cowe at Arran Stud, BEACH BOUND – now 3 – put on good condition and was sent to Duncan McKenzie in PE to take advantage of his high level of care and of polytrack which might suit.
After 8 months off, she ran this afternoon (in turf) finishing an encouraging 4th, not driven hard because she would not have caught the front three and her rider dropped his stick anyway. Onwards and Upwards.
