Relative of a major champion wins at Epsom

South Africa’s GB bred champion racemare DANCER’S DAUGHTER has a branch of the family that has been developing in UK and Ireland, largely through the offices of Allan Bloodlines.

The company bought her young winning half sister by the unfashionable PENNEKAMP at Goffs three years ago, in foal to HAWK WING, a genetically attractive if relatively uncommercial mating.  The mare was purchased when DANCER’S DAUGHTER was Gr.3 placed but Allan believed that she would be more than good.  She later won 5 x Gr.1 races.

This mare – PRINCESS MAGDALENA – was bought for Mrs Yoshiko Allan who not long afterwards decided to offer her at cost to a management client new to the breeding business.

After the removal of stock around 18 months later to be near the client’s home, PRINCESS MAGDALENA, in foal to AMADEUS WOLF, plus her HURRICANE RUN foal were sold, the former at the back end of a modest sale with little or no protection.  Allan bought her again for a first class South African breeder client at a fraction of the budget.

The then HAWK WING yearling was retained at the sales by his owner/breeder and at Epsom a few days ago, trained clearly very well by Andrew Balding, won his debut 2yo maiden.  He is named JOHN BISCUIT, after the owner’s 1935 car as explained in a recent Racing Post article.

PRINCESS MAGDALENA is now in foal Southern Hemisphere time to ARCHIPENKO, the Lanwades resident, previously Mike de Kock trained.  She and her smart AMADEUS WOLF filly will head south later in the year.
