Fillies and mares for South Africa
A mixed menu of activities for Allan Bloodlines was appropriate at the Mixed Sale, The July Sale, at Tattersalls Park Paddocks in Newmarket this week.
Purchasing four fillies and a mare for two South African owner breeders, Allan struck within a price range of as little as 2,500 guineas for a PULPITfilly with a Brazilian pedigree not known in Newmarket but well known in the Southern Hemisphere to 35,000 guineas for a very well made, correct 2 year old filly by DANSILI from an immensely strong German family. A SINGSPIEL mare out of the extraordinary Meon Valley mare BELLA COLORA and in foal to MANDURO was an exciting addition to the South AFrica Stud Book and two fillies by SINGSPIEL and KYLLACHY, to be covered southern time in Newmarket, made up the set. The latter, admittedly unsuccessful on the racecourse, seemed to be “a steal” for a well made half sister to a Gr.1 (Falmouth S.) winner, their dam being a full sister to European champion 2 year old filly HOH MAGIC.
On the other side of the coin, Allan oversaw the sale of horses in training, one disappointed being first lot in the ring when the sales company decided not to repeat its previous day’s delayed start to accommodate returning racegoers, and another, when all the racegoers had arrived back, exceeding expectations.
