Gets the Frankie Dettori seal of approval

Leicester Racecourse has a habit of attracting quality fields to its handicaps, and the Bryan Smart/Allan Bloodlines combination had long since earmarked a particular sprint at the Oadby course yesterday evening for FATHOM FIVE’s next step on the ladder following his Newmarket win.

The officially Soft ground, following downpours, brought about a number of withdrawals and a small field, but perhaps only one was pulled out that would have threatened FATHOM FIVE’s short price favouritism. Frankie Dettori responded perfectly to instructions to take the horse down steadily and then to let him bowl along at his own naturally very fast pace. Acknowledging trainer Bryan Smart’s accurate suggestions, Frankie grinned at David Allan coming in off the track and said “After going down it was easy”. And it was. Hands and heels, and a win by 5 lengths.

Fathom Five, bought by Allan Bloodlines at Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale 2005, runs in the colours of Hintlesham Racing and is owned by David and Yoshiko Allan in partnership with Julian Agostini and Henry Schimia. They have a nice sprint handicapper in the making.
