Pending appeal….

On a dramatic afernoon at Newmarket, FATHOM FIVE proved how progressive he is by winning his third consecutive race off a mark of 92, only to lose the race in the Stewards’ Room. Temporarily or otherwise…..

Headed by SOHRAAB inside the final furlong, FATHOM FIVE fought hard to get back and succeeded to flash past the post a head in the lead. He had drifted off the rail towards SOHRAAB early in the final furlong but there was no visible contact other than jockeys’ whip arms. Betting on the Stewards Enquiry showed FATHOM FIVE a very confident 2/5 to keep the race.

Nevertheless, the Stewards reversed the placings, penalising jockey Philip Robinson 4 days and, in a separate incident, the other Jockey Robert Havlin 7 days for hitting FATHOM FIVE in apparent anger after crossing the line.

FATHOM FIVE connections will go to Shaftesbury Avenue to appeal against the Stewards’ decision. Whatever the outcome, this 5 furlong speed machine is very much going the right way and is a tough young battler.
