Smart Jet Master colt scores impressively at Kenilworth

The Allan Bloodlines Racing Club in South Africa STRAIGHT BAT RACINGhad a smart looking winner this afternoon, early in the new season, when 3 year old colt FLY AMERICAN took a competitive 1200 metre maiden in fine style.

The chestnut – a son of champion sire JET MASTER – was an Allan purchase at the National Yearling Sales, consigned by Scott Bros.  Today, Aldo Domeyer went steady early in the race on quite soft ground then came with a run with 200 to go.  Only challenged seriously by BOIS DE VAR who was beaten three quarters of a length, FLY AMERICAN otherwise trounced the field.

Like most of the STRAIGHT BAT horses, he was not introduced to the Club until showing good form at home thus eliminating what can sometimes be a long wait.   FLY AMERICAN then placed encouragingly at the end of his 2 year old season and was given a few weeks off by trainer Vaughan Marshall to fill his frame.  Now, having just turned 3 in August, he is closer to the finished article.

STRAIGHT BAT RACING is going from strength to strength now that the concept is better understood.  Less than 8,000 rand or around £600 / €685 buys a whole twelve months’ membership and association with three or four racehorses.  In addition to the winner FLY AMERICAN, the Club has in the Cape six time winner TITUS ALONE and a new 3 year old to be confirmed shortly.  A fourth bonus horse will run in KwaZulu Natal – a very exciting winning filly who will be aimed at black type races.
