A favourite of his shareholding patners, FLYING STANDARD, kicked off the 2022 Turf Season with a commanding win at Salisbury yesterday evening. His trainer Chris Wall had started with a Group 3 winner with his first runner and – whilst not a Group 3 – this reappearance after winter holidays generated a great deal of pleasure.

Jack Mitchell charted a perfect course, holding “Stan” up at the back of the 11 runner field for much of the 1 mile 6 furlongs test. Still there well up the long straight on this lovely racecourse, Jack chose his line and came wide enough to race past the whole pack, winning comfortably by a length adn a quarter for Stan’s 3rd win to go with 7 places.
The big chestnut, bought by AllanBloodlines as a yearling fro Tattersalls Ireland’s September Yearling Sale, has really come to himself and with an accomplished performance on Good to Firm turf albeit at modest level, may climb further now.
