Hintlesham Racing’s 5 times winning stalwart ICE LORD started this season with a brilliant 4th (2nd without traffic) at Newmarket but then suffered a combination of a foot issue, too-firm ground in the height of the summer (and extreme heat on the gallops) and recently a back in spasm.

The latter stopped him in his customary run at Haydock and signalled the issue which has been resolved over a period of a month with first class physiotherapy.

At Newbury yesterday, on Heavy but not too cloying ground, ICE LORD rushed back to form in the hands of James Doyle.

Slightly missing the break when a bang next door set him off against closed gates, ICE LORD ran a regulation race but from a couple of lengths farther off the pace than ideal in that ground.

He overhauled everyone but the winner and gave a large Hintlesham gathering on course reason to celebrate “getting him back”.
