Darshaan family favourite mare has another Allan-bred winner

SEVEN ROSES is the name of the David Allan-bred 3 year old gelding by SEVENTH ROCK out of MESSILA ROSE (GB) by DARSHAAN.

Raised for us at Hemel ‘n Aarde Stud, this fellow wasn’t the best we have ever bred after selecting a purely commercial mating and achieving a decent yearling sale.  But good enough to win yesterday after a bunch of placed runs while he got his bearings.  He looks like he could improve now having won comfortably.

He runs in the august colours of Mr & Mrs Jooste , now trained by Tara Laing and ridden yesterday by Raymond Danielson.  Congratulations and thank you!

MESSILA ROSE is family favourite and part of an extensive family that we imported to South Africa in numbers!  She produced two very decent multiple winners in UK and France, one Listed placed, and one winner since arrival in SA.  This is her second SA foal after battling to acclimatise but since then she has a BLACK MINNALOUSHE yearling filly and an ALADO filly – her last foal bred on the farm to avoid travelling her.  She is well, but joints and sinew are tired so she won’t be asked to carry again and will be a companion mare.

MESSILA ROSE’s GB bred daughter TIMPANIST (by BEAT HOLLOW by SADLER’S WELLS to achieve that legendary cross with DARSHAAN) has recently had a first foal 2 year old winner at Greyville (see elsewhere in this news section).

MESSILA ROSE’s much younger half sister SUNNYDALE also Allan-bred but in Ireland and from a then very elderly HABITAT mare was a 3 times winner in the Cape.  Her first two foals are both winners but sadly she died foaling her surviving NATIONAL EMBLEM yearling filly (full sister to one of the winners).  She also has a BLACK MINNALOUSHE 2 year old in training SHE ALONE due to run soon in the colours of Hintlesham Racing South Africa.
