SUNNYDALE a 3 year old filly (although turned 4 Southern Hemisphere time) by SHAHRASTANI out of a HABITAT mare won her first ever race at Kenilworth in the Western Cape today. Bred against a strong Brain International mating recommendation by sending an elderly Habitat mare to Allan Bloodlines’ own double Derby winner Shahrastani, the filly had shown ability but remained immature well into her 3 year old year.

With strong Southern Hemisphere black type popping up under her first dam to support a world-class second dam, SUNNYDALE was sent to be trained by Vaughan Marshall near Cape Town who lost no time in becoming optimistic.

Sent out very well prepared although unsurprisingly running a bit green, the Shahrastani filly came to win her race, was stopped in her tracks when “sandwiched” then resolutely showed a turn of foot to get up on the inside and win going away. Having started at 2,000 metres she may be stepped up in distance with an eye on a major staying race on Cape Town’s “Met Day”.
