Unusually coloured colt now a winner and placed

Described as “Bay and Roan” in the sales catalogue just over a year ago, a colt by Fath out of Ornellaia was purchased by Allan Bloodlines. Now named SUPER TUSCAN – Ornellaia being one of the so-named wine producers in Tuscany that broke the mould and introduced new grape varieties – this 2 year old colt won his maiden at Wolverhampton this afternoon.

SUPER TUSCAN had been very unlucky to be “flattened” in a 6 furlong race at Doncaster that he led for a long way until being knocked out of the race by a colt out of control and he then finished 3rd on the polytrack at Kempton. Trainer James Given and David Allan concurred that it would be worth taking him back to 5 furlongs and, eschewing several other entry opportunities, declared him for today.

It may have helped that Wolverhampton is riding quite slow due to weather impact on their own polytrack, but the colt had to give an odds on favourite no less than 9 lbs. Under a calm, measured ride from Tom Queally, the youngster steadily overhauled the favourite in the straight and won comfortably.
