Imperial Dice wins by a long way
The Allan Team’s winning streak in South Africa continued this afternoon when the 3 year old IMPERIAL DICE hammered a field of maidens to win his second start by no less than 7.25 lengths carrying David Allan’s colours.
Starting favourite, the chestnut gelding ran a bit green but when Stuart Randolph asked him to quicken from near the back of the field, the commentator was giving him the race after a very short time. The trip was a mile and the ground was easy after a lot of rain.
Allan had seen this son of Parade Leader – then unfashionable – at breeders John and Beth Brandtner’s Nutfield Stud on a 45 degree day at Franschoek. Liking him a lot, David ended up buying him at the National Yearling Sales, vowing to give him a lot of time to fill his frame. Later, the horse joined Summerveld (Durban) trainer Alistair Gordon who also took his time. First time out, IMPERIAL DICE ran a good 4th over 1200 metres, then Alistair successfully sent him out over 1600 metres today.
